Netflix drops its most 'unhinged film' with critics calling it ‘one of the decade’s worst movies’

Guys, it might be time to wind down the 'here's how this thing got invented' genre of movies.

It was kind of cool when Tetris got an origin story and then there was that film about how they made the Air Jordan, but a movie about the creation of the Pop Tart seems like a bit much, according to some viewers.

Yeah, this is Unfrosted, the directorial debut of Seinfeld and Bee Movie star Jerry Seinfeld, and for some reason he's decided that his opening movie ought to be about how they came up with the Pop Tart.

More specifically, it's based on a Jerry Seinfeld joke about how they came up with the pop tart.

Joining Seinfeld in the movie is a list of talent as long as your arm, including Hugh Grant as Thurl Ravenscroft, the voice of Frosties cereal mascot, Tony the Tiger.

Elsewhere in the cast, Melissa McCarthy plays a NASA scientist who joins Kellogg's, Amy Schumer plays the head of the rival cereal company, Peter Dinklage plays the 'leader of the milk syndicate' (whatever that's supposed to mean) and Bill Burr plays US president John F. Kennedy.

There's also a part in the story for Harold von Braunhut (Thomas Lennon), the inventor of sea monkeys who also bought weapons for the KKK and attended Neo-Nazi groups.

Sadly for anyone hoping all these ingredients would combine into a delectable movie, the critics have not really liked Unfrosted very much.

Film Stories said the movie has got so much going on that it 'all bizarrely falls flat', while RogerEbert.com slates the film as having 'no apparent passion'.

The Chicago Sun-Times went even further, calling Unfrosted 'one of the decade's worst movies'.

Ouch.

There might be a more enjoyable way to spend 96 minutes of your life. (Netflix)

For those who've already seen it some have called it 'truly unhinged', words which are not often put towards a compliment, while plenty more took to social media to wonder how Netflix was convinced to spend actual money on this film premise.

Can you even imagine the 'elevator pitch' from a comedian pitching a film based on a joke he told about the invention of a breakfast dish?

Then again, some people have said they liked Unfrosted as someone suggested 'if you can last beyond the first five minutes of the film' you might get some mileage out of it.

While others have said the movie was 'delightful' and they laughed on several occasions, but most of the reaction to it has suggested it's anything but g-r-r-r-r-r-eat!

Maybe go and eat a bowl of Frosties instead.
