James Bond fans 'very confused' thinking Anya Taylor-Joy has just been cast to play next 007

People have got the wrong end of the stick

With reports that the next James Bond has finally been selected, some fans have got the wrong end of the stick after mistakenly thinking Anya Taylor-Joy had been cast in the role.

The next James Bond is said to be confirmed very soon as an actor has been 'formally offered' the role of 007.

Three years after Daniel Craig's last Bond film, No Time to Die, and it seems a successor may have been selected.

According to reports from The Sun, Aaron Taylor-Johnson 'has been formally offered the opportunity to play James Bond'.

The 33-year-old is yet to be officially announced in the role, nor has he officially accepted it, but he would be the eighth actor to play the legendary spy since the franchise began with Dr. No in 1962.

Taylor-Johnson is known for his acting credits in Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Godzilla, and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.

But upon hearing the news, some fans have mistakenly thought actor Anya Taylor-Joy had been offered the gig.

One person wrote on X: "Anya Taylor-Joy has been cast as the new James Bond."

While another said: "I see Anya Taylor-Joy is to be the next James Bond. I can live with that."

And a third added: "I just heard Aaron 'Anya' Taylor Johnson 'Joy' is going to be the next James Bond."

Meanwhile a fourth commented: "Thought it said Anya Taylor-Joy at first and was very confused."

And a fifth asked: "Anya-Taylor Joy is the next Bond?"

While Taylor-Jonson isn't officially confirmed just yet, other potential names for the role of 007 previously included recent Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy and Henry Cavill.

A source told The Sun: "Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back.

"As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement."

Just last week, Taylor-Johnson responded to the Bond rumours, saying to Numero: "I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment."
