Donald Trump Paid $3m For Wisconsin Recount That Found More Biden Votes

From bad to worse for The Donald

Donald Trump ended up spending $3 million (£2.25 million) to pay for a recount of all the votes in the US state of Wisconsin, only for the recount to discover that Joe Biden had actually received a further 132 votes than previously thought.

It's yet another blow for the outgoing 45th President of the United States in the wake of his election defeat.

The money paid by Trump was first confirmed the Wisconsin Electoral Commission back on 18 November when they tweeted: "The Wisconsin Elections Commission has received a wire transfer from the Trump campaign for $3 million.

"No petition has been received yet, but the Trump campaign has told WEC staff one will be filed today. We have no further information at this time."

Well, we've got a bit of further information to bring now, because they looked into the 460,000 votes or so that were cast on 3 November in the mid-Western state and discovered that - in actual fact - Biden's margin of victory should have been ever so slightly bigger.

The Republican Trump campaign had aimed to overturn Biden's slim 22,500 lead, but with no success.

Since the results started to come in, The Donald has been adamantly - and falsely - claiming the election had been 'stolen' and that there was widespread voter fraud.

So far, that argument has only resulted in challenges being rejected by courts and recounts proving that Biden had, in fact, won fair and square.

That means that on 20 January, Trump will have to pack his bags and vacate the White House whether he likes it or not.

Speaking to Forbes, Biden campaign spokesperson Mike Gwin said: "Once more, Donald Trump's debunked claims of widespread voter fraud utterly fail to withstand scrutiny - just like they haven't held up in court in the over 35 cases they've lost since Election Day."

In addition, Milwaukee county clerk George Christenson said: "The recount demonstrates what we already know: that elections in Milwaukee county are fair, transparent, accurate and secure."

However, this latest defeat is unlikely to weaken Trump's resolve to challenge the election result.

On Saturday night after a three judge panel dismissed his appeal against the results in Pennsylvania, the POTUS tweeted: "The 1,126,940 votes were created out of thin air. I won Pennsylvania by a lot, perhaps more than anyone will ever know."

However, Judge Stephanos Bibas, speaking for the three-judge panel, argued: "Free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy.

"Charges of unfairness are serious, but calling an election unfair does not make it so. Charges require specific allegations and then proof. We have neither here."
