A dedicated dad has found a new way to tackle the sweltering heat - building his own pool. You can watch him at work below:
Yep, just as the UK is caught in the grips of a heatwave, Alex Dodman made his bid for dad of the year, by building his kids a pool from scratch.

Alex learned how to build the impressive structure simply by watching YouTube videos - the only thing we've learned from YouTube is conspiracy theories, but each to their own.
Alex lives with his partner Sarah and their two children Alfie and Eddie.
Since moving into their home in 2017, Alex, who's an ambulance worker by trade, has made some pretty handy home improvements - including a home cinema and a gym.
If he has a spare minute and wants to fix up our house, we'd be totally on board.

Still, Alex's latest project is perhaps his greatest, because there's nothing you want more in the grips of a heatwave than to jump in your very own pool.
Alex said of the construction work: "I did everything myself, from picking up the materials and carrying them into my garden, to hiring a digger and digging the hole as well as the tiling and all of the plumbing.
"I watched a video on YouTube on my lunch break of someone building a pool and that same day I was on the phone hiring a mini digger."

For the handy dad, having a private pool was a dream come true. He added: "I had dreamt of having [a] pool once the house was renovated, and I'd even earmarked a little patch to hopefully build it on one day.
"When I watched a YouTube video of a woman in Holland building pool, I knew I wanted to do it."
However, it wasn't all smooth sailing, as Alex started the project in January 2020, digging a massive hole in his garden, only for Covid to hit and he 'couldn't get anything materials [wise] for ages'.

He went on: "In retrospect, it was a bit of a blessing that I had to stop. It slowed it down which meant I was able to take my time with what I was buying and ordering and knowing what I needed.
"Because most places were closed, I started buying the things I needed from Facebook market place which was a lot cheaper."
So, Alex bought blocks from leftover building projects and a heater so the pool wouldn't be freezing.
And all we can say is, what YouTube videos is he watching, and can he help us with ours.
