Tattoo Artist Who Did Man's Tesco QR Code Tattoo Hasn't Seen Anything Like It In 12 Years

Tattoo Artist Who Did Man's Tesco QR Code Tattoo Hasn't Seen Anything Like It In 12 Years

But he managed to do such a good job it actually works

The tattoo artist who inked a Tesco Clubcard’s QR code onto the arm of a bloke who was committed to never missing a bargain has said he’d ‘never seen’ anything like it before. You can see it in action here:

In case you missed it, dad-of-seven Dean Mayhew, 30, decided to get his Clubcard permanently etched onto his skin - bringing a whole new meaning to the term ‘loyalty card’.

Scaffolder Dean said he decided to get the unusual tattoo after regularly forgetting or losing his Clubcard and missing out on lower prices and points.

So he paid a visit to A Star Tattoo in Chessington, Surrey where tattoo artist Dan Rossetter, 39, spent half an hour copying the intricate design onto Dean’s forearm.

Tattooing a Tesco Clubcard QR code was a first for Dan, who said: “I’ve been tattooing for 12 years so I’ve seen lot but I’d never seen a Tesco Clubcard as an idea before.”

I wonder why that is.

Dan continued: “At first I said ‘are you sure you want to do this’, but I saw the fun within it and thought ‘let's do it’.

“I was anxious about how well it was likely to work as it's an intricate bar code but Dean was quite relaxed about it and was going for the fun aspect – he said if it didn’t work it wasn’t the end of the world.”

And so, the time came to go ahead and check if - after all that pain and parting with £200 - the code even worked; squeaky bum time for Dan, whose reputation as a tattoo artist was on the line.

He explained: “I did the tattoo and we decided to pop to Tesco down the road – we went to the self-service checkout but because of the way the scanner is situated he couldn’t get his arm flat enough and we thought it didn’t work.”

The tattoo artist had never seen anything like it.

But fear not - because in testament to Dan’s artistry, a hand scanner was able to come to the rescue.

“We went to the till and a person with a scanner tried and on the first go it worked,” Dan said. “Dean’s face lit up and I realised it actually did work.

“I think I’m always quite a fun outgoing type of guy anyway so it was a bit of banter and there is the element of it being a genius idea – it's not something I would have come up with off the top of my head, to be honest I thought it was quite cool.”
