As we all quickly learned, the current 8pm curfew for hospitality essentially renders it impossible to have anything resembling a 'night out' in Ireland these days. Short of buying ourselves a pub, we're once again in a painful waiting game to see when the government might again allow us the tiniest modicum of craic.
Unless... we all know it's not a buyer's market out there, perhaps we should look into merely renting a pub?
Well, a bit of light desk research has proved extremely fruitful in this pursuit as it just so happens there is an entire pub available to rent as an Airbnb in West Cork.
Situated on the popular Wild Atlantic Way, The Holiday Pub is a full self-catering watering hole that does exactly what it says on the tin - a fully functioning pub with an open fire and even kegs of Guinness hooked up to the bar taps.
Behind the bar is a typical pub kitchen meant for catering to large crowds so it does feel a little industrial. Adjacent to the workers quarters however is a spacious living room with a 55" smart TV where you can unwind after a long evening no doubt on the sauce.
Upstairs you'll find no less than six bedrooms, most of which are en suite. The pub can accommodate up to sixteen people at a time - more than enough for an epic night out, or rather a night in in this case.
There's even a patio (or perhaps a 'smoking area'?) which can be enjoyed on sunnier days.
To rent out The Holiday Pub, you'll need to a book your group in for a minimum of two nights. It's going to cost you in the realm of €2,700 - which works out at about €168 each for two nights. Not bad for what we're sure would be a truly unforgettable weekend.
And think of the money you'll save on taxis when the journey home from the pub is simply one flight of stairs?
