Peeling vegetables is easily one of the least popular kitchen tasks - after the washing up, of course.

But one bloke has shared a nifty hack to help you get through the carrots and spuds in a matter of seconds, having found a more useful way of using your humble peeler:

The home cook went viral after realising that for years he's been using one of his kitchen utensils 'wrong', having made the online world think twice about their vegetable peeler.

Tim Smith, 51, had been making a bolognese in his kitchen in Nottingham when he decided to try out a hack his girlfriend had told him about.

The account manager videoed himself using his peeler in a way that many of us never knew was possible - running the device from the top to the bottom before doing the same in reverse in one swift move, in turn saving himself that extra bit of effort and time.

"Oh my God, I just figured out how to use this," a stunned Smith says in the footage.

After sharing the video, filmed in 2020, Smith went on to become an online hit.

The clip has not only been shared thousands of times online, social media users have also praised the nifty process as something of a 'game changer', branding Smith a 'genius'.

Smith said: "I was absolutely stunned. It's just something so small and simple in your life that most of us have been doing wrong all along.

"My girlfriend had mentioned it a week before and I hadn't had a chance to put it to the test until I started making the bolognese.

"I don't normally put a carrot in the sauce but I had searched recipes for the slow cooker and it suggested it, so I decided to give it a go.

"This was my genuine reaction as I hadn't tried it before this. I was incredulous.

"I never imagined it would get so much interest online. I thought a couple of my mates would call me 'boring' for posting it, but it's blown up.

"I think it just shows that we all need a bit of a laugh at the moment.

"I love cooking as it's good stress relief and the slow cooker is just so easy. I like to make a good curry in it, I make a sensational Thai green curry. I'll be using this technique in the future. It's life changing."
