Frustrated bloke admits he’s ‘losing touch’ after not understanding Gen Z pun on cinema board

It's beautiful to see language growing, but sometimes it's mightily confusing

In my interactions with Gen Z, I've tended to find them a largely pleasant bunch, and at times wondered if this generational divide is just some concocted nonsense meant to divide and distinguish people who are largely the same.

Then they say the most insane things like they're incredibly normal utterances, and while all the other Zoomers understand what's being said, I feel about a million years old.

On occasion, I feel crushed by the existential dread that life and language is moving on with no regard for my own sense of youth.

Perhaps joining me in this place is a bloke who recently went to the cinema and at the age of 48 could not understand what the sign above the door meant.

This poor soul from Generation X shared a picture of the cinema and asked for some help deciphering the message, admitting he was 'losing touch' with the young people.

"I’d ask the kids but they’d just say 'gyat gyat final boss of rizz'," he wrote in a Reddit post, proving that even if nobody listens to Gen X they at least listen to everyone else.

The cinema was advertising a screening of Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt movie The Fall Guy, and their sign read: "He's giving stunt energy."

Feeling lost and in need of some guidance on the slang terms kids these days are using, the bloke was fortunate that the internet was willing to help him understand.

People logged on to tell him that 'it's giving' was a pretty common saying among Gen Z when they wanted to explain what something felt like.

Others pointed out that the pun came from the similarity between the word 'stunt' and another word which ends in 'unt'.

However, others noted that the sign was trying to have its linguistical cake and eat it, as the phrase is not usually 'it's giving c**t', it's normally more akin to 'serving c**t'.

According to the youth of today, 'serving c**t' means having the power to walk into a room and impress everyone there with your socially dominant energy.

Someone else added that the phrase had its origins in the world of drag and it had entered Gen Z's lexicon thanks to 'drag's increasing pop culture presence'.

Several more pointed out that the cinema could have done a much better job with the sign, suggesting 'he's serving stunt' would be a far superior version of the pun.

Honestly, that would have been much better.
