Some people really love dropping their GoPro into the ocean to see what lurks just beneath the lapping waves.
All you really need is a GoPro, a waterproof case and a bit of a line to lower it down on to discover what awaits in the depths.
One fellow who lowered his camera beneath his boat found a vibrant underwater world teeming with life, as well as a grizzled shark on the aquatic prowl for something to eat.

Others stuck a GoPro onto a barge that was due to be sunk to give people a look at what being on a sinking ship would be like without the health hazards of actually being on one.
Sadly, some GoPros found beneath the water contain the final moments of people who met an unfortunate end, the footage a final testament to their last moments.
One person who tried exploring the ocean with a camera decided to drop their GoPro off a jetty in the Australian city of Port Noarlunga.

At first, the YouTuber - Dusty Sands - saw the impact that constant immersion in seawater has on whatever you put into the ocean, as the support struts of the jetty had basically become their own little environment.
Panning around the murky water, the camera then spotted a bulbous object that appeared to be beside one of the supports.
It was round and had pronounced spikes, as well as a chain hanging down underneath it further into the water.

If you've watched Finding Nemo or Hot Fuzz, then you might reckon this looks like a sea mine, and plenty of people told the YouTuber they ought to let someone know what they found.
It's not just water people like dropping their GoPros into, they also have a penchant for dropping them down big holes as well.
One guy dropped his into the 'deepest pit in the USA' to give people a look at depths which it would be unwise to explore yourself.
In this way such sights and sounds that you would not normally get to experience can be shown to a wide audience, though plenty of viewers end up getting creeped out by what they see.
In essence it's the human urge towards discovery, to know there's something we can't see and instinctively want a look at it.

If the modern world's version of that is dropping a GoPro down a hole to get footage of what's down there then so be it.
Just as long as you know to attach it to a line so you can reel it back out again later on.
