Don’t even deny it, every now and again we suddenly find ourselves freaked out by inanimate objects.
Maybe you absolutely jump out of your skin because a draft suddenly blows your door open. Or perhaps you nearly sh*t yourself thinking your car is going straight for a cat, only to realise it’s a plastic bag.
And this man was left terrified by his electric fan and I’m not talking about it randomly turning on in the night.

The bloke ended up super spooked when he heard voices coming from the thing before realising what was actually happening – no, it wasn’t someone talking into the blades so that it would make that funny sound.
He took to Reddit to detail how his area experienced a power cut for a good hour which wasn’t a ‘big deal’. But when it came back on, he ended up ‘actually scared’.
Looking for help in the subreddit ‘Glitch in the Matrix’ he explained: “So I'm running around turning my stuff back on when I get to my fans, now even though it is winter, my apartment gets really warm, so we have these 3 tower fans.

“I turn the first two back on, and as I'm walking up to the 3rd, THERE ARE VOICES COMING FROM IT."

And they weren’t creepy ghost-like voices but instead it ‘sounded like a talk show’.
“Like you could hear people talking. Mind you, all of this is coming from my unpowered fan, did I mention that?” he continued.
“The fan was plugged in, but I never pressed the power button and there are people and sometimes music coming from it.”

And when he unplugged the fan, the noises didn’t stop, and he could still hear a ‘barely-audible news show’.
Many users suggested that perhaps he was hearing thing in the white noise, and turning it into voices. But it was actually something a little weirder.
Turns out, the fan was picking up radio waves from nearby. Yep, in case you didn’t realise, many of your metal things around the house can pick these up.
It’s just that typically while the signals go through them, they’re not usually amplified like this to be audible.

And that’s what happened with the fan, it must have been close enough to an antenna that it was strong enough to vibrate so much the noise was loud enough for him to hear – and be creeped out by.
