Arctic Monkeys fans are mocking Alex Turner for going ‘full Richard Hammond’ at Glastonbury

Arctic Monkeys fans are mocking Alex Turner for going ‘full Richard Hammond’ at Glastonbury

While you'd expect the focus to be on the music, fans of Arctic Monkeys have pointed out that Alex Turner looks like Richard Hammond

Friday's long-anticipated headline act for Glastonbury 2023 is well underway, with Arctic Monkeys performing their tunes to the packed festival crowd.

But while you'd expect the focus to be on the music, many fans have flocked to social media to compare lead singer Alex Turner to one certain celebrity.

Any guesses? Well, the celeb that many are saying Turner looks awfully familiar to this evening is Richard Hammond - yep, really.

And it is not just a few who think this, with many taking to Twitter to make the rather unexpected comparison.

"My sister and I just messaged each other at the exact same moment that Alex Turner looks a bit like Richard Hammond. Glad to have had my thoughts on the matter justified, but a bit creepy nonetheless," one person said.

A second added: "Alex Turner has gone full Richard Hammond #Glastonbury23."

Another remarked: "Richard Hammond on stage pyramid stage! Where is Alex turner??"

I can't unsee it now.

And a fourth quipped: "Alex Turner adopting the top gear Richard Hammond look there.#Glastonbury23."

Leading up to Glasto, there were huge question marks as to whether the Arctic Monkeys would be able to fill the Friday headliner slot.

Possible replacements like Harry Styles and Taylor Swift were touted, but luckily for fans of the indie band, they were able to perform after all.

The question marks came after the Sheffield-born band cancelled their gig in Dublin on Tuesday (20 June).

Lead singer Turner was ordered to rest after coming down with laryngitis, an illness where your voice box or vocal cords in the throat become irritated or swollen.

"We are extremely sorry to announce the cancellation of Arctic Monkeys’ show at Marlay Park in Dublin tomorrow," the band wrote on social media earlier this week.

Many were thinking Alex Turner may not be been able to perform.

"Alex is suffering from acute laryngitis and following medical advice, has been ordered to rest.

"Alex and the band apologise for the huge disappointment this will inevitably cause to all their Irish fans.

"Full refunds will be credited back to the ticket purchaser’s account."

Symptoms of the illness include a croaky voice, difficulty speaking and a sore throat.

It is also worth noting that recovery is usually within the one-week range, so whatever medication Turner is on, it has obviously done wonders.

Arctic Monkeys are one of dozens of acts set to perform this weekend, with other acts including Guns n Roses, Elton John, Lizzo, Lewis Capaldi and Lil Nas X.
