The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood has addressed claims that she'd been spotted crying in public after she'd called out a Saturday Night Live skit for being 'mean and unfunny'.
The American comedy show put out a sketch last Saturday (12 April) spoofing season three of The White Lotus, with Wood appearing in the HBO series as friendly Manchester woman Chelsea who shows up at the hotel with boyfriend Rick (Walton Goggins) who frankly could have done with listening to her advice a bit more.
During the SNL skit Wood's character was spoofed by Sarah Sherman, who wore a set of fake teeth and did a joke about not knowing what fluoride was.
Wood called out the sketch as 'mean and unfunny', saying that while the rest of it 'was punching up' she thought 'I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on'.

"Yes, take the p**s for sure — that’s what the show is about — but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?" she posted on social media as part of her response.
Shortly afterwards, the Toxic Town and Sex Education star said she'd 'had apologies from SNL'.
She was later pictured walking out and about in London with fellow actor Ralph Davis, the duo have co-written the TV series Film Club which will be shown by the BBC later this year, and the New York Post published pictures showing her appearing to be crying.

However, according to the TV star, the tears had nothing to do with the SNL skit as she responded to a message of support on social media.

Presenter and DJ Ashley Louise James had posted in support of Wood, saying it was 'absolutely devastating to see another brilliant and talented actress reduced to tears because of people tearing into their appearance', going on to say Wood was 'so beautiful' and 'an incredibly talented actor'.
Wood responded by sharing the message on her Instagram stories, saying: "Thanks so much. Just to say, I actually wasn’t crying about anything that the papers made out. I was crying about something completely unrelated."
There you go, the matter is all cleared up.

As for the rest of what she said about the SNL skit, she'd responded by saying: "The last thing I’ll say on the matter. I am not thin-skinned. I actually love being taken the p**s out of when it’s clever and in good spirits. But the joke was about fluoride

"I have big gap teeth not bad teeth. I don’t mind caricature - I understand that’s what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.
"Actually one last thing. Not Sarah Sherman’s fault. Not hating on her, hating on the concept."
Wood then said 'this sums up my view', as she shared a comment from a fan comparing it to '1970s misogyny'.
