The actor first revealed his sobriety back in 2018

American Pie star Jason Biggs has opened up about his issues with alcohol, revealing the moment he wanted to 'try to get sober’.

Biggs, 46, is best known for his role as Jim Levenstein in the American Pie franchise, as well as playing Larry Bloom in Netflix series Orange Is the New Black and voicing Leonardo in animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

However, the actor has also battled addiction behind the scenes, revealing his struggles with alcohol on social media back in 2018.

Sharing that he'd been sober for one year on Instagram where he revealed that had initially struggled to deal with his addiction back in 2013.

"I first tried to get sober over five years ago, when the weight of my obsession with booze and drugs became too heavy for me to handle," he wrote.

"Turns out this s**t is hard. After some fits and starts, I’ve managed to put together one year of sobriety. I’m as proud of it as anything in my life. If you’re struggling, know there’s help. Don’t be ashamed. We can do this."

The actor has since opened up about how he hid his drinking habits from his wife Jenny Mollen in a recent interview on her podcast All The Fails, telling her the 'bottle method' he used at home.

More recently, Biggs explained how he'd carried on drinking in secret while attending counselling sessions for alcoholism.

"I'm going to therapy and I’m working on things, but meanwhile I’m leaving therapy, having just had a good session, and I’m going to the liquor store and buying a fifth of vodka, and drinking it and then driving home," he explained.

The revelations took Mollen by surprise, to which she replied: "These are the things that shock me, how did I not notice?"

Biggs then went on to explain exactly how he'd managed to keep his issues a secret from Mollen, revealing that he'd worked out the exact amount of alcohol he needed to take himself 'out of the life equation' without his wife noticing.

"It was all science, I had it figured out to a T but not get too drunk where I couldn’t have a conversation with you," he explained, adding that he made sure to regularly replace the bottles of alcohol at home in order to avoid detection from Mollen.

"Wow, I had no idea," she replied.

Mollen and Biggs, who starred in romcom My Best Friend's Girl together, tied the knot back in 2008. The couple currently share two sons together, Sid (born 2014) and Lazlo (born 2017).
