American Pie's Jason Biggs tells wife bottle method he used to hide fact he was an alcoholic at home

American Pie's Jason Biggs tells wife bottle method he used to hide fact he was an alcoholic at home

The actor revealed he had some ways of concealing his drinking habits

American Pie star Jason Biggs revealed the ways he hid his alcohol addiction from his wife Jenny Mollen without her even realising.

The New Jersey-born star - who is best known his role as Jim Levenstein in the iconic film franchise - revealed that he was getting through large bottles of vodka on a daily basis, without Mollen having any idea.

But all of his skeletons ended up coming out of the closet when he made an appearance on her podcast All the Fails, back in March this year.

And seen as though this is a couple who previously hired a prostitute together, some were left pretty shocked that they hadn't discussed these subjects with such honesty before.

In the hard-hitting episode, Biggs dove into the 'spiral that accompanied his newfound American Pie fame' which culminated in him becoming something of a high-functioning alcoholic - and in the process, he dished up some home truths about he hid his struggles with booze from his wife.

The couple have been married since 2008 after falling head over heels for each other while filming My Best Friend’s Girl and they share two sons - but in the throes of his addiction, Biggs kept a few secrets from Mollen.

For those who don't know, the Orange Is the New Black star took to Instagram in October 2018 to announce that he was celebrating one year of being on the wagon.

Biggs wrote: "I first tried to get sober over 5 years ago, when the weight of my obsession with booze and drugs became too heavy for me to handle. Turns out this sh*t is hard.

"After some fits and starts, I’ve managed to put together one year of sobriety. I’m as proud of it as anything in my life.

"If you’re struggling, know there’s help. Don’t be ashamed. We can do this."

On Mollen's podcast, the 46-year-old explained that he had sought professional help to deal with his problems at one point, and even though it seemed to be helping him, he was unable to resist picking up a drink.

He told his wife: "I’m going to therapy and 'working on things', but meanwhile I’m leaving therapy - having just had a good session - and I’m going to the liquor store and buying a fifth of vodka, drinking it and then driving home."

The actor, 45, was visibly shocked by her husband's admission and admitted she was completely unaware of the extent of his reliance on alcohol.

Mollen responded: "I was married to this guy? That's so weird to me! These are the things that like, shock me. How did I not notice?"

Biggs explained that was exactly the point - as he had gone out of his way to make sure she wouldn't pick up on his problem, even going as far to start using a 'bottle method' to disguise how much he was drinking.

He continued: "I knew how to get wasted enough to where I took myself out of the life equation, took myself out of the present, didn’t have to connect in a way that made me feel things."

"It was all science," Biggs added. "I had it figured out to a tee."

Biggs confessed that he would never get too drunk to the point where he 'couldn't have a conversation' with his wife, emphasising that this is how he managed to conceal his battle with booze for so long.

"You just didn't know how to look for it," he said. "I was replacing those bottles in the bar all the time. All the time."

The Amateur Night star said she had 'no idea' about him drinking their bar dry before replacing the tipples.

Social media users praised Biggs for being so open about his struggles with alcohol and drugs.

One said: "Thank you for sharing Jason! 14yrs sober. He is describing my drinking to a tee. Sobriety works!"

Another commented: "Love his honesty and your lack of judgment."

A third added: "What a king to share this! I’ve been sober for 2.5 years and can totally relate.

"Thank you for posting."
