Most of us imagine we could be great athletes, if only we tried a little harder.

However, comedian Kevin Hart has learnt it’s best to quit whilst you are ahead after trying to go up against NFL star, Stevan Ridley.

In fact, footage has emerged of the incident that left the actor in a wheelchair for the foreseeable.

The actor and comedian injured himself in a race with the NFL star.

The 44-year-old really should have known better than to go up against former Patriots player, however, Hart just couldn’t resist having a race to decide who was faster.

Unsurprisingly, he didn’t win with Ridley even uploading videos of his defeat on Instagram for all to see with the caption: “@kevinhart4real Gotcha?? Got whooo?!”

Filmed on a usually quiet street, the men go head-to-head in the first clip as friends and confused neighbours gather around.

There’s a fair amount of whooping and cheering from the crowd as Ridley sprints past the Jumanji actor with ease.

If that weren’t embarrassing enough, a second slip shows them racing again with Hart hurting himself on camera.

As if to add insult to injury (literally), Ridley even added a slow-mo version of the video with the actor’s horrified reaction visible as he tears his abdomen. (Ouch!)

Whilst we love a bit of healthy competition, we are sure this is not what the comedian had in mind as the incident left him in a wheelchair.

You can see the pain on his face.

Uploading his own video to Instagram, he explained that things hadn’t nipped back to together so neatly due to his age.

"Ladies and gentlemen the age 40 is real, to all my men and women out there who are 40 years old and above it's not a game," he told fans on social media, adding: "Respect that age, respect that age or that age will make you respect it. I was just forced to respect it."

Hart then joked about having to make a public service announcement following his accident.

"This is a public service announcement because I know people may see me out and I don't want you to be alarmed but I'm in a wheelchair,” he explained

“[I] tried to go out there do some young man's stuff and was told to sit my ass down.”

Whilst Hart insisted he was ‘pretty fast’, the comedian has suffered some pretty extensive damage.

He revealed: "Guys I blew all of my s**t'. Tore my lower abdomen, my adductors, I tore them.

"I don't even know what that is but I tore them. Tore those two. I can't walk, sit my ass down. This is 44."

Clearly, he needs to find something more his speed.
