Christian Bale warns fans about meeting him as he can see truth 'in their eyes'

It’s often said that you should ‘never meet your heroes’ but plenty of us will argue against that – you can’t deny you’re desperate to meet your favourite icon.

But there is always that chance you’ll get star struck in the presence of a celebrity and absolutely fumble the bag.

Not for Christian Bale though it seems, he’s not particularly bothered about meeting people he sees in ‘films’ and doesn’t want to meet his heroes.

And the American Psycho actor passes on that advice to anyone who’s been dreaming of meeting him as he issues a bit of a warning.

Bale was speaking to Entertainment Tonight when they asked if he’s ever ‘not played it cool’ when meeting other celebrities.

Claiming that he is ‘never cool’ anyway, the actor explained that the very action he gets from others is partly what puts him off wanting to meet his ‘heroes’.

“I see it in people's eyes when they've watched my movies and loved them and then they meet me and I see their eyes,” the star said, “that terrible disappointment about who I really am. And it's true. What a disappointment.”

Bale therefore issued a pretty simple warning to any fans as he said: “That's me at my best in the movie. Never meet me.”

He also added that he never wants to meet his heroes because they’re ‘heroic in what they do’.

“But you know, give them a break,” the actor said. “Nobody can be a hero all the time.”

And while some fans said he’s right because you ‘can’t really idolise anyone once you get to know them’, others said his comments ‘kind of makes me want to meet him’.

Although, if you were to meet Bale he’d certainly be different to how he is in many of his roles with him often making mega transformations.

When getting ready to play Frankenstein’s Monster in The Bride!, he was ‘screaming like crazy’ to prevent him ‘from going insane’.

Bale had to sit for hours with a ‘great deal of stillness’ in the makeup chair so this gave him some catharsis while being covered in prosthetics and the whole crew even got in on it.

He told Entertainment Weekly: "It was great to have the makeup and hair team who all just loved it. If I ever forgot, if I was in my own little bubble thinking about the day's work, they would stop me and go, 'Oh, scream.' And then we would all do our screaming together.”
