Christina Applegate has spoken candidly about life since her Multiple Sclerosis, revealing how the disease 'eats away at all the things we take for granted.'

The Dead To Me star received the life-altering diagnosis back in 2021 and since then has seen her health decline, going from running, riding her Peloton and playing tennis to spending most of her time in bed, often in excruciating pain.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, affecting the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves, leading to a myriad of symptoms, from vision loss and pain to coordination struggles.

Now 54, Applegate has penned a devastatingly honest piece about what it is really like to live with the condition,

and how she has no 'patience for bulls*** any more'.

Writing in the Guardian, the actor said some days she wakes up in so much pain, she is unable to move her arm far enough to reach for the cup of water by her bed, or to grab her phone from its charger, while infusions to slow the disease leave her prone to infections.

"My stomach frequently slows to a halt, leaving me to rush to the emergency room in agony. Most days, simply walking across the room feels like scaling a mountain," she explained.

"One of the worst side-effects of the illness is the exhaustion. It feels as though I’ve been on a three‑day sleepless bender – and that’s how I feel after a good night’s sleep. Hence all the time I spend on and in bed, snuggled up against my heating pad."

Another side effect, however, is that her symptoms have left her unable to care about what she says or how she makes anyone feel, admitting she's become 'an honesty missile.'

"And it’s not just because I’m no longer working. Sure, there’s no one breathing down my neck to represent their business or movie or TV show, things I’ve had to represent, usually willingly and passionately, for almost 50 years. It goes deeper," Applegate said.

"When your physical situation deteriorates, and your life shrinks to the size of a king-sized bed, suddenly all the things you thought were important shift, too. The truth clarifies, like a camera lens slowly focusing."

The mum-of-one has opened up about one of the things she misses most, which is being able to hop into a car and take her daughter Sadie grace LeNoble places.
