Everyone is saying the same thing about Nikki Glaser’s Golden Globes speech as she slams Joker 2

Everyone is saying the same thing about Nikki Glaser’s Golden Globes speech as she slams Joker 2

Her monologue has received praise

Nikki Glaser’s Golden Globes speech for this year’s awards has gotten everyone talking, in part due to her pointed dig at Joker 2.

The speech had particular focus on it, due to the car crash performance from host Jo Koy at last year’s awards.

Koy was booed on stage for some of his jokes, with some of what he said even eliciting loud groans from the audience.

This included one particular joke about Barbie, which led to accusations of sexism.

Glaser took on the role this year as the first ever solo woman to host the awards show.

Thankfully, this was no repeat of last year, as Glaser has already received widespread praise for her accomplished opening speech.

The comedian poked fun at Ariana Grande’s viral ‘holding space’ moment, asking if she could hold her finger as she was nervous.

Despite this though, Glaser showed no signs of nerves.

One viewer tweeted: “Nikki Glaser devoured and left no crumbs with that opening monologue.”

Another said: “nikki glaser kind of absolutely annihilating her monologue. incredible presence, perfect pacing, knows how to roast people and be tongue-in-cheek without being obnoxious and offensive.

“i fear the golden globes are officially back.:

A third viewer tweeted: “nikki glaser reminding us why we should never have a male awards show host ever again.”

Within her speech though, Glaser’s most cutting joke ironically came at the expense of the Joker sequel.

She said: “Where’s the Joker 2 table? Oh right, they’re not here”.

Joker: Folie a Deux was a commercial and critical flop, despite the success of the first.

Where Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar, and Joker was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, Joker Folie a Deux has received no awards buzz, made a massive financial loss, and sparked mass fan walkouts.

If one fun thing came out of it however, at the very least, it was Glaser’s joke.

It received a great deal of focus online, with one viewer tweeting: “Joker 2 joke was the best the show has had since Amy [Poehler] and Tina [Fey].”

One fan, however, called it ‘a bit disrespectful’, with another adding: “We didn’t laugh.”

Another fan meanwhile tweeted: “Nikki Glaser actually went easy on the film like she said she would ‘cause I’ve heard people say much harsher things about it.”

This is not far off, with one actor Tim Dillon who had a small role in the film’s sequel dubbing the sequel ‘the worst film ever made’.

Dillon said: “We would sit there, me and these other guys were all dressed in these security outfits because we’re working at the Arkham Asylum, and I would turn to one of them and we’d hear this crap and I’d go, ‘What the f**k is this?’

“They’d go, ‘This is going to bomb, man.’ I go, ‘This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen.”
