Brooke Hogan sets the record straight on why she didn't attend dad's funeral

The WWE star died at the age of 71 last month

Hulk Hogan's daughter has explained the reason why she decided against attending her father's funeral.

The wrestling legend - real name Terry Gene Bollea - died on 24 July after suffering a heart attack at his home in Clearwater, Florida. The 71-year-old is survived by his wife, Sky Daily, as well as children Brooke and Nick Hogan, from his previous marriage to Linda.

Hogan was later laid to rest in a private ceremony in Clearwater on Tuesday (5 August), which was attended by friends, family and numerous WWE legends.

Although there was one notable absence, his daughter, Brooke Hogan.

The absence of Brooke - who now uses her husband Steven Oleksy's surname - was a notable one, given rumours the 37-year-old had a fractured relationship with her father, and even asked to be removed from his will.

However, the TV personality has since set the record straight on her reasons for not attending her father's funeral, revealing that she decided to honour him in her own way.

Taking to Instagram, Brooke shared a series of images of herself, Oleksy and their twin children at the beach, and explained that she was 'grateful' for all the memorials to Hogan.

"I'm so grateful for all celebrations and events organised to honour him," Brooke wrote.

"As his daughter, I had to make my own decision to honour him the best and most genuine way I knew how...privately...the way that made me feel the closest to him.

"The only thing missing today was him in is pop up lawn chair watching the waves... and the sunset."

Brooke went on to explain that Hogan had a hatred of the 'morbidity' of funerals and hadn't expressed a desire in having one, which also impacted her decision to opt for a more low-key remembrance.

"Daddy, we honoured you in the simplest way that agreed with my soul," she added. "We took our babies to the beach and put them in the same salty waters you loved.

"Every grain of sand and every wave reminded me of being your beach baby, and brought us closer to you. I pray you are at peace and know how dearly I love you. Rest in heaven, Daddy."

Meanwhile, police in Clearwater were forced to speak out after several conspiracy theories emerged on the internet, suggesting that foul play had been involved in Hogan's death.

Providing a statement in response to the rumours to TMZ, Clearwater Police Department said: "As previously stated, there are no signs of foul play or anything suspicious about the death."
