Living your life in the public eye is something which is part and parcel of being a celebrity, and between the paparazzi, social media and overly keen fans, they often can't get a tap of privacy.
You'd think the one benefit of everyone knowing all of the skeletons in your closet is that you might be able to avoid some awkward conversations which us mere mortals are subjected to, such as someone bringing up that ex you would rather forget - but unfortunately for Katy Perry, this wasn't the case when she sat down with Ellen DeGeneres in 2017.
Despite the majority of the world being well aware that the singer's first marriage brutally came to an end via a text message right before she was about to head on stage in 2011, it seems the talk show host might have blocked out Perry's entire legal union if this conversation is anything to go by. Have a look here:
Talk about rubbing salt in the wound, eh?

DeGeneres didn't half put her foot in it when she was welcomed Perry on The Ellen Show to discuss the release of her album 'Witness', her new trim and her love life.
While chatting about her career and debuting her pixie cut, the California-born songstress was informed that she would be playing a game which was aptly titled ‘Will You Perry Me?’
I'm sure you can deduce what this entailed, but essentially, Perry had to decide who she'd prefer to date out of two male celebrities, such as Chris Martin, Harry Styles and Leonardo DiCaprio.
But before the game had even begun, DeGeneres managed to make quite the blunder while explaining the rules to her guest.

Introducing the Firework hitmaker, she said: "We're back with Katy Perry, you're about to go on tour and you are single...
"So here's what I thought I would do, here's an idea - I can help you find a new boyfriend and raise money for the boys and girls club at the same time."
Perry seemed pretty up for it initially, announcing that she was 'ready to mingle', however she did enquire if the comedian, 66, was somehow trying to 'set her up'.

DeGeneres replied: "It's a game called 'Will You Perry Me?' It's who'd you rather, but it's a clever title, so we just decided to change it to that."
Seen as though she had been down the aisle before and it all ended in tears, the singer jokingly got all flustered when the mention of marriage came up.
A panicked Perry said: "Do I have to get married?! Again?!"
Viewers probably expected her tongue-in-cheek comment to get a quick chuckle before DeGeneres swiftly moved the conversation on - however, they were sadly mistaken.

Instead, the TV star insisted that Perry had never been married, which ultimately forced the divorcee to relive her break up which had played out in front of the entire world six years earlier.
The singer shot back: "I was, when I was 25. Yeah, it's been a long time honey. No wrinkles, no lines."
This still didn't jog DeGeneres' memory though, as she had to ask who Perry had tied the knot with.
Whispering, The Smurfs star responded: "His name is Russell Brand. Remember you gave me some wedding gifts on this show?"

A giggling DeGeneres then said: "Oh that's right! I forgot about Russell. Yeah...that'll be cut out."
Obviously, this snippet of the interview didn't end up on the cutting room floor as the talk show host implied, making for quite the viral moment.
Even more hilariously, DeGeneres then tried to begin 'Will You Perry Me?' and urged the singer to 'answer honestly', adding: "| will be the judge of this because I know you."
I'm not so sure how close these two are after that, but Perry took it all on the chin and got the game underway.
If you're feeling a bit like DeGeneres and can't quite remember the ins and outs of Perry's marriage to the standup comedian, 49, here's a quick rundown.
The then-25-year-old singer met Brand while filming the 2010 movie Get Him To The Greek and hit it off, before reportedly reconnecting at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Three months later, they were engaged and in October 2010, they got wed at the Ranthambore Tiger Sanctuary in Rajasthan, India.
But just 14 months later, Brand allegedly sent Perry a text message stating he had filed for divorce right before she was about to head out on stage and perform to a crowd full of fans. Classy, Brand.
Their divorce was finalised in 2012 - but don't worry, he wasn't 'The One That Got Away'.
Perry is now happily in a relationship with actor Orlando Bloom, 47, who she shares daughter Daisy with.
