Lily Allen shares sad reason she was forced to get rid of family dog that ‘ruined her life’

Lily Allen admitted that she 'just couldn't look at her'

Lily Allen has opened up about the sad reason she was forced to get rid of the family dog.

The 'Smile' singer, 39, who adopted the little pooch to move into her New York townhouse, said she had no choice but to take her 'back to the home'.

Taking to her BBC-commissioned Miss Me? podcast with Miquita Oliver, Allen revealed that the pet came to live with her kids Ethel Mary Cooper, 12, and Marnie Rose Cooper, 11.

She shares the children with her ex-husband Sam Cooper. The pair got married in 2011 and divorced in 2018.

"We actually did adopt a dog already, but then it ate my passport and so I took her back to the home," Allen began.

"She ate all three of our passports and they had our visas in.

"And I cannot tell you how much money it cost me to get everything replaced, because it was Covid so it was just an absolute logistical nightmare.

"And because the father of my children lives in England, I couldn't take them back to see their dad for like four months, five months, because this f**king dog had eaten the passports.

"And I just couldn't look at her. I was like 'You've ruined my life.' "

Explaining why she still had Cooper's name on her passport, Allen added: "I still have my ex-husband's name because I've got two children with the man.

"And it's hard to travel with children if you haven't got the same surname."

Back in July, the singer lifted the lid on how she broke down in tears for '90 minutes' after waving good-bye to her children who went to a summer camp for two months.

She said: "We dropped the kids off and it was great, it was so sweet, I'm so glad that we got them there on time.

"I was like [to David], 'I was so mean to them, I was so snappy, I didn't cuddle them for long enough'. They don't have phones, I can't speak to them for a month, so they are gone.

"We can write letters to each other, that's it, so I can't call them, they can't call me."

Her co-host then chimed in that it would be a good experience for Allen and her kids, to which she agreed: "It will be good, and it was transformative for them last year, so I know they'll have such a good time

"I know they'll enjoy it."
