Nicholas Hoult has special trick that's got him through nude scenes with thirty people

For some actors, nude scenes are just another day at work whereas for others, they’ll avoid doing them completely.

Charles Melton previously spent nine hours donning a prosthetic d**k for May December while Nicholas Hoult has his own trick for getting through.

The actor’s been at it since he was a teen, of course having played Tony Stonem in Skins back in the day.

Having starred in many a film during his career – from X-Men to Mad Max: Fury Road – he also played Peter III of Russia in the somewhat steamy series The Great.

Playing the husband of Catherine the Great (played by Elle Fanning), there were various naked moments.

One scene during the Hulu series required Hoult to step about in his birthday suit in front of over 30 people.

And the actor came up with his own trick for getting through it.

Hoult told The Guardian in 2021: "I remember reading the script and saying, 'Aaaaargh Tony [McNamara, creator of the show], I’m not sure about this one.'

"We had a debate about how many supporting artists would come in that day. It was originally 70 people in the corridor.

"I said, 'Can we get it down to about 30?'

Eventually, the Tolkien star pulled it together, explaining: "You have to switch off that part of your brain that’s saying, 'I don’t want to walk down a corridor naked.' "You have to go: 'All right. I’m Peter. And I feel so confident, and I’m so happy and enlightened, that I’m going to walk down this corridor naked'."

"It’s an interesting trick to play on your brain,” Hoult added.

His co-star Fanning also previously discussed The Great’s raunchy plotlines with Entertainment Weekly.

She explained: "Sex is also a real big part of the real Catherine the Great's life. "She was notoriously kind of beyond her time in that way. She was very open and free and loved sex."

Discussing filming those scenes with Hoult, she added: “I think we both like to challenge ourselves, Nick and I, and we're trying to push each other's buttons and he's trying to make me laugh and trying to go there.

"So I think it really helps those scenes.”

While filming May December, Melton found it pretty ‘annoying’ having to wear a prosthetic penis for his sex scene with Natalie Portman, revealing that he avoided drinking anything the night before and on the day.
