Barbie fans have been left stunned as the Oscars have released their list of nominations for 2024 and there's no sign of Margot Robbie in the Best Actress category.
Nor has there been a Best Director nomination for Barbie director Greta Gerwig, which has had fans quite angry.
The movie might have made over a billion dollars at the box office and garnered praise from the critics, but there haven't been nods for Barbie in either of those categories, though it is up for Best Film.

However, Ryan Gosling has been nominated for the Best Supporting Actor for his role as Ken in the movie, and the film has picked up nine nominations in total as America Ferrera was up for the Best Supporting Actress Gong.
Barbie is also up for Best Adapted Screenplay, so Greta Gerwig could walk away with a little golden statue after all, and it has two entries in the Best Original Song category.
Best Film Editing, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design Oscars are all within Barbie's grasp as well, but fans of the movie have been astonished that Margot Robbie didn't get the nomination.

Several described the lack of nomination as a 'snub' on the part of the Oscars while others called for 'justice for Margot Robbie'.
Someone else chipped in to say they 'can't believe Margot Robbie was overlooked' and plenty more have been replying to the Oscars' announcement of the nominees to tell them 'someone's missing'.
Some said that Gosling getting a nomination while Robbie didn't was 'completely proving the point of the movie', while another said Robbie's performance in Barbie was 'luminous yet achingly vulnerable' and she deserved a nomination at least.
Others discussing the Best Actress category reckoned that even if she deserved a nomination she wasn't likely to win it anyway.

Instead the buzz around who will win the Oscar in that category this year is surrounding Emma Stone for Poor Things and Lily Gladstone in Killers of the Flower Moon.
Despite all of the great movies releasing in the span of a year there can only ultimately be one winner.
Barbie might pick up Oscars in other categories but for many fans of the film, and there are a lot of them, they were really hoping Robbie and Gerwig would get the nods in their respective categories.

Maybe Greta Gerwig should have fought to keep the 'fart opera' in for Barbie.
