A 37-year-old radio presenter took his chance on air to announce to listeners that he'd just become a grandfather.
Matty Acton is an Australian radio presenter and comedian who is only seven years older than your humble writer here but has managed to find the time to contribute two entirely new generations to the world.
He was live on-air yesterday (1 October) with co-hosts Stav Davidson and Abby Coleman when they were talking about the sweepstake they'd set up to guess when Acton's grandkid would be born.

The grandfather-to-be himself was the only one who hadn't put up his guess for the sweepstake, with the due date being 5 October.
Coleman said she thought it'd be a late birth and went for 9 October, while Davidson wanted to 'lock it in' a day sooner on 8 October.
However, the radio presenter surprised his colleagues and listeners by saying he'd be betting on the baby being born on 30 September.

Davidson said 'that's yesterday' while Coleman put two and two together and excitedly exclaimed: "Have you had the baby already?"
"She was born last night," Matty confirmed live on-air to his laughing colleagues who joked that they were sitting with a 'granddaddy', though he was branded a 'little sneaky snag' for not telling them before they'd confidently declared their sweepstake dates.
Acton admitted he'd been 'dying all morning' to say something and share his good news, but had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to say something.
On his own social media channels he's been sharing pictures of him meeting his new granddaughter, Illyria Fay Acton, and he seems thoroughly chuffed to become a grandfather.
If you're going to announce big life-changing news then you might as well do it by radio, and it seems Australian radio specifically.

Elsewhere on the Aussie airwaves a woman proposed to her boyfriend live on air and was rejected.
Fortunately this story has a happy ending as the reason he said now was because he was already planning to propose and did so in person that very night.
Another Australian radio presenter accidentally revealed that his co-host was pregnant live on air, seemingly unaware that she hadn't actually announced it to anyone yet herself.
He said he thought it was 'public knowledge', and then in adept radio presenter fashion pivoted to asking his audience whether they'd like to call in and say they'd ruined some surprises.

Very Alan Partridge, that one.
