Robert Pattinson admitted he 'hated' character he played in one of his biggest ever movies

Robert Pattinson admitted he 'hated' character he played in one of his biggest ever movies

Despite getting his big break with the role, Robert Pattinson isn't too fond of the character

Robert Pattinson has once again voiced his dislike for one of his most iconic characters.

The British actor has starred in the likes of The Batman and Tenet but rose to fame as Edward Cullen in the ultra-successful Twilight movie series during the late 2000s.

Edward is a 108-year-old vampire who attends a high school and becomes infatuated with a girl named Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart), a 17-year-old who recently moved cities.

First released in 2008, the film series would go on to have four more instalments, attracting fanfare from millions around the world.

However, it seems Pattinson has never been particularly fond of the role, even highlighting how 'weird' the storyline and characters were at the time.

The 38-year-old has never shied away from hiding that he isn't the biggest fan of the franchise, even admitting that he would 'mindlessly hate' the series if he wasn't in it.

Speaking with Empire Magazine in 2008, he explained: "When you read the book, it's like, 'Edward Cullen was so beautiful I creamed myself.' I mean, every line is like that."

Pattinson continued: "He's the most ridiculous person who's so amazing at everything. I think a lot of actors tried to play that aspect. I just couldn't do that.

"And the more I read the script, the more I hated this guy, so that's how I played him, as a manic-depressive who hates himself. Plus, he's a 108-year-old virgin, so he's obviously got some issues there."

It's funny to read the comments since fans went wild for the actor when he portrayed the vampire, who had super speed.

But even amid the thousands of people with crushes on the character, Pattinson was confused as to why.

While promoting The Twilight Saga: New Moon in 2009, Pattinson told OK! Magazine: “With virtually anyone, the nice guys always seem to come last. You always get weirdos like Edward who seem to attract women for some reason.”

He added: “If Edward wasn’t a fictional character and you met him in reality he is like one of those guys who would probably be an axe murderer or something.”

There's a lot more where that came from, with the actor struggling to grasp certain plot points and would be candid about this during press junkets.

He even claimed that 'a lot of the stuff in the Twilight world doesn’t make any sense', asking why the characters are 'still going to high school' as 'they’re 100 years old'.
