Seth Rogen responds to 'most disturbing comment' he gets about making decision not to have kids

Seth Rogen and his wife Lauren Miller chose not to become parents

Having played a dad in the likes of Bad Neighbours, Seth Rogen has opened up about not wanting kids of his own after seeing friends with theirs.

The 42-year-old is the face of a new Esquire profile, discussing his new series The Studio.

During this interview, Rogen also responded to James Franco’s admission that the pair no longer talk as well as the 'most disturbing comment' he gets about his decision to not have children.

The Superbad star is pretty surprised by the fact him not being a dad has become such a big thing as he and wife, Lauren Miller, enjoy their over a decade long relationship without becoming parents.

“People really had strong takes on it, being like, ‘F**k this f**king guy. Who the f**k does he think he is not to have kids?’” Rogen said. “Well, if you hate me that much, why do you want more of me?”

Obviously, it’s absolutely no one else’s business why the couple have decided not to have children but Rogen explained that, at the end of the day, parenthood is just simply not for them.

“You should only have kids if you really want kids,” he said. “And we just don’t really want kids. Time kept going by and the moment where we were like ‘Let’s do it!’ just kept not happening.”

Those who make the decision on not having kids often end up being told they’ll ‘change their mind’ as they get older. And Rogen isn’t particularly impressed with the answers he gets to why he’s supposedly meant to change his mind over it.

“The most disturbing comment that I saw a lot of was ‘Who’s going to take care of you when you’re old?’ Which to me is very telling. Is that why you’re having kids?” he said. “Because I have two things to say: One, that’s very selfish to create a human so someone can take care of you. And two, just because you have a kid, I hate to break it to you, that doesn’t mean they’re going to do that.”

Rogen went on to explain how seeing his pals with their children has contributed to this decision.

The This Is the End star said he looks at his friends who are parents and feels like some of them ‘are incredibly happy and fulfilled’ but that: “Some of them seem like maybe they wish they had put a little more thought into it. I just didn’t want to be one of those people.”

Well, wise words from Rogen.
