Why Will Ferrell won't work with famous actor ever again after fallout that saw huge sequel cancelled

Why Will Ferrell won't work with famous actor ever again after fallout that saw huge sequel cancelled

There were reports of a behind-the-scenes feud on the set of Elf

Feuds in Hollywood are as common as just about anything.

Whether it be The Rock and Vin Diesel, Elton John and Madonna, Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, Hollywood is full to the brim with high profile feuds.

One name that wouldn’t stand out to you as a likely participant in one though is Will Ferrell.

It might be just the roles he plays that make it impossible to imagine Buddy the Elf beefing with someone, as well as the fact that Ferrell comes across in interviews as a nice, agreeable guy.

There is however a famous actor that, by all accounts, Ferrell is unlikely to work with ever again.

This includes a fallout that saw a potential sequel to one of Ferrell’s classic roles being cancelled.

Ferrell’s feud was actually with the director of Elf, and fellow Hollywood actor Jon Favreau.

Favreau has become known to a whole new generation of film fans for his acting parts in the MCU as Happy Hogan.

But to many, Favreau is a director, who has helmed films such as Elf, Zathura, Chef, the first two Iron Man films, as well as episodes of TV on shows such as The Mandalorian and The Office.

The feud between the pair began on Elf however, in which Favreau also appeared as Dr. Leonardo, the Hobbs family paediatrician.

According to late co-star James Caan, the pair ‘didn’t get along’ and this scuppered the chances of a sequel.

In a 2020 interview Caan said: “We were gonna do it and I thought, ‘Oh my god, I finally got a franchise movie, I could make some money, let my kids do what the hell they want to do.’

“The director [Jon Favreau] and Will [Ferrell] didn’t get along very well.

“So, Will wanted to do it, he didn’t want the director, and he had it in his contract, it was one of those things.”

Ferrell has admitted in the past that he did indeed turn down the chance at an Elf sequel and, though he hasn’t publicly spoken on his reported feud with Favreau, he turned down a hefty chunk of change to squeeze back into his elven tights.

He turned down £23 million to return for a sequel, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “I would have had to promote the movie from an honest place, which would’ve been, like, ‘Oh no, it’s not good. I just couldn’t turn down that much money.’

“I thought, ‘Can I actually say those words? I don’t think I can, so I guess I can’t do the movie.'”
