Cillian Murphy Thinks Being Photographed Is 'Offensive'

‘You can be walking down the street and someone takes a picture like this is a f***ing event'.

The Hollywood actor from Cork sat down with Rolling Stone UK this week to chat about his role in Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie 'Oppenheimer' where he expressed his hatred to be photographed “You can be walking down the street and someone takes a picture like this is a f***ing event".

“I don’t like being photographed by people. I find that offensive. If I was a woman, and it was a man photographing me...,” he added.

He may live his life in front of the camera but he lives quite the normal life here in Dublin where he isn't pestered by paparazzi and hundreds of fans constantly trying to snap a pic of him on the daily. Murphy is known for living away from the spotlight as he moved his family from London to Dublin eight years ago. He famously revealed that he moved his family back to Ireland because his children were developing “very posh English accents” in London.

He said during the interview: "I don’t go out. I’m just at home mostly, or with my friends, unless I have a film to promote."

Murphy went onto explain his reasonings behind finding being photographed offensive “It can ruin experiences because it fetishises everything. I don’t like being photographed by people. I find that offensive. If I was a woman, and it was a man photographing me…"

Comparing popularity to commuting, the Peaky Blinders star said, “You have to commute to get to your destination."

"I think that’s the way the best people are: they’re not doing it for any other reason but love of the craft. They have a compulsion to make work, not to be famous or get attention.”

Cillian Murphy has admitted that fans have been 'underwhelmed' when they meet him in person since he is nothing like his Peaky Blinders character Tommy Shelby.

The 46 year old revealed that when he's noticed by fans, they expect him to carry the same 'charisma and swagger' as the period gangster.

Oppenheimer arrives in Irish cinemas on 21 July, the exact same day as Barbie.
