Channing Tatum has revealed what’s happening with 23 Jump Street after admitting he’s always being asked about the film.

“My name Jeff,” is probably one of the most quoted lines in Tatum’s entire discography - and it’s only right.

21 Jump Street, the first in the franchise, was an absolute banger when it came out in 2012.

It features Tatum and Jonah Hill as they go from police officers to undercover students, who are attempting to ‘narc’ on a drug ring.

The film has all the hallmarks of a comedy classic.

There are awkward school encounters, Ice Cube being...well, Ice Cube, sexual mishaps, and a little cameo from Johnny Depp - which ends in tragedy.

Then, there was the second installment: 22 Jump Street.

This 2014 film was even better, seeing the duo take on college and spring break, landing them in some very tense situations.

Now, it’s been 11 years since the release, and obviously, fans have wanted to know when the pair would go on to make another movie.

With the script written, and Hill and Tatum leading the cast, there’s only one thing holding it back.

In an interview with Variety, Tatum spilt the tea.

The long-delayed sequel was brought up, and although Tatum said it was 'sincerely the best script I’ve ever read for me and Jonah [Hill],’ the project has repeatedly had its development pushed back.

Why?

Because of the budgets and producer fees that keep burying it in the mud.

“I get asked more about ‘Jump Street 3’ than any other movie on the face of the planet that I’ve ever done,” Tatum says.

He sadly shared that he doesn’t think it’ll ever get made.

He explained: “I don’t think it’ll ever happen. The problem is the overhead. It would cost as much as the actual budget of the film — if not more — because of all the producers involved. It’s just too top-heavy. It falls over every time.”

According to Tatum, even he and Hill tried to get it off the ground by taking a pay cut, as did directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Sadly, the reason it’s apparently not able to go forward is because of producer Neal H. Moritz’s compensation fees.

It’s this issue which has made it financially impossible to create.

“Neal’s price for a producer fee is huge,” Tatum shared. “And to be honest, that’s what’s killing it.”

But aside from that, the actor has been busy promoting his Roofman film, which is inspired by the real-life story of Jeffrey Manchester.

Manchester is a man who robbed multiple McDonald’s restaurants, and when he was arrested, he repeatedly escaped prison and hid out in a Toys “R” Us store.

However, while he was attempting to rob the store, two employees managed to escape and notify the police.

This led to authorities realising who he was, but he managed to escaped again.

That’s when his then-girlfriend was convinced by the police to help bring him in to be arrested.

He was sentenced to forty years in prison and is still serving time for his crimes.
