In case you've missed the news, Garfield and Pugh are co-starring in the romance-drama film as married couple Tobias and Almut, with the time-hopping movie following how the pair fall in love, get married and navigate a devastating health diagnosis.

So far, the majority of the media attention has focused on the Spider-Man star's revelation that he and Pugh 'didn't hear cut' while filming their first sex scene, forcing the cameraman and sound operator to turn away.

Hell, Garfield even recreated the crew's reaction during a talk with Josh Horowitz, showing how the pair were stood with their heads hanging down while he and Pugh we're left mortified.

"We're like.. 'you've got to say cut louder,'" he added.

The actor has now spoken about the intimacy featured in the film during a joint interview with director John Crowley for IndieWire, explaining why he felt the sex scenes looked like they're from 'a different era'.

"You don’t get to see that much [of them] these days," he said of the film's sex scenes.

He continued: "I think maybe this film feels from a different era because we are far more guarded with each other now.

"Paranoid. Removed. Isolated. Divided. There’s far less intimacy because of this stuff... We’re much less intimate with reality."

Explaining why he thinks We Live In Time's intimate moments will be a hit with viewers, he added: "I think there’s either an unconscious or even conscious longing in the audience for these images. To see that level of intimacy and connection being lived out on screen, I think, will be a lovely reminder and inspiration for people."

The actor also spoke about the film's use of an intimacy co-ordinator during his talk with Horowitz, explaining how they were more of a 'choreographer' than anything else.

"We had a great intimacy co-ordinator there," he explained. "We choreographed a bunch of beautiful sex scenes."

Garfield then went on to add that he felt a 'responsibility' as a man on set to make sure his co-star was comfortable with all of the intimate scenes they were filming.

"The responsibility is so heightened," he said. "I will probably ask if she is okay an annoying amount [of times]."

We Live In Time is set for release on 1 January 2025 in the UK.
