Some Beetlejuice fans probably don't know the reason why the father from the original film may not have been included in the sequel.
After dropping at the weekend, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is considered to be 'better' than the first Tim Burton movie, which came out in 1988.
The second film sees the return of many cast members from the original, including Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, the treacherous ghost back to cause havoc on the Deetz family.
Now a grown up mum, Winona Ryder comes back into the mix as Lydia Deetz, while Jenna Ortega plays her daughter Astrid Deetz, who accidentally summons Beetlejuice.

Catherine O’Hara also returns as Lydia's stepmother Delia Deetz.
Also joining the franchise for the second film is Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci.
In the first movie, Delia is married to Charles Deetz, played by Jeffrey Jones, who hasn't been included in the sequel.
In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the film starts with the Deetz family mourning the death of Jones' character at a funeral.

While the 77-year-old hasn't publicly addressed being left out of the second instalment, it seems that his career trajectory changed after his arrest.
In 2003, Jones pleaded no contest to charges of possession of child pornography and to soliciting a 14-year-old boy to produce sexually explicit images between September 2000 to May 2001.
The actor photographed the boy, and paid him to pose in the nude on multiple occasions, while wearing a cowboy hat and dressed as a Native American.

Jones was sentenced to five years probation, counselling, and told to register himself as a sex offender every year.
"This concludes a really painful chapter in my life," he reportedly said at the time.
"I am sorry that this incident was allowed to occur.
"Such an event has never happened before and it will never happen again."

However, in both 2004 and 2010, the New York actor was arrested for not updating his status as a sex offender.
The Ferris Bueller's Day Off star subsequently plead guilty and received an additional 250 hours of community service and three years added to his probation period.
Amid the controversy, Jones has still appeared on-screen since, reprising his role as A.W, Merrick in Deadwood: The Movie in 2019.

Meanwhile, fellow Beetlejuice actors Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, who played Adam and Barbara Maitland, also weren't involved in the sequel.
