Harrison Ford says he 'was seduced' into making new Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies

The veteran actor is set to star in his first Marvel film, Captain America: Brave New World, this month

In recent times, there's been a flurry of reboots and remakes, with actors clambering over one another to go back and visit some of their most famous roles.

The likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jim Carrey have all had a crack, with varying degrees of success.

But few actors, even those named above, have as deep a well from which to draw when it comes classic characters as Harrison Ford.

The 82-year-old is one of the most celebrated leading men of the past 50 years, and is set to star in his first Marvel film this month, with the release of Captain America: Brave New World.

Over the past few, years, though, he's revisited several of his most famous parts, including Han Solo in 2015's The Force Awakens, and The Rise of Skywalker four years later, Rick Deckard in 2017's Blade Runner 2049, and, of course, Indiana Jones in Kingdom of The Crystal Skull (2008) and the Dial of Destiny in 2023.

Speaking to LADbible ahead of the release of Captain America, Ford claimed that he had never been the one to propose the idea of reprising these roles, but was instead convinced to return.

He explained: "I haven't initiated any of those efforts. I've been seduced into most of those circumstances... willingly.

"I was very happy to do the last Indiana Jones film, because to me, it represented a bookend to the character, to see him in that place at that stage of his life fascinated me and I was thrilled to make that movie.

"The job here that I have is I'm an 'assistant storyteller', I don't create, I'm not a producing actor, I don't produce films. I feed opportunistically on what's available, and sometimes I reach outside of my usual diet for something, and it's always been fun to be able to do that. And I think that's the natural mindset of an actor."

In preparation for Brave New World, the veteran actor had a lot of pressure on his shoulders, even more than usual.

The long-awaited film sees Ford play the President of the United States, who finds himself caught in the middle of a deadly international incident, with Anthony Mackie - having played Falcon in previous movies - now taking on the responsibility of Captain America left by Steve Rogers.

But as well as stepping into the Marvel world for the first time, Ford was also taking over from the late William Hurt, who passed away in 2022 and had previously played the same character, General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross, in five Marvel movies, including 2019's Endgame.

And as you might expect, Ford took the responsibility of living up to fans' expectations and the legacy of his predecessor very seriously, doing his homework before stepping on set.

When asked if he'd studied Hurt's take on the role, Ford told us: "I did [watch all of the previous films]. Yeah, sure, I respect him enormously, and I know his work in other idioms.

"So I felt very much responsible for reviewing and seeing what he what he had done, that provides the foundation on which I would build, whatever my contribution may be, and it looked like a amusing opportunity."
