Hugh Jackman reveals the toughest thing about returning to his superhero role amid divorce

Hugh Jackman reveals the toughest thing about returning to his superhero role amid divorce

The journey to get back into Wolverine shape isn't easy

Hugh Jackman has opened up about the hardest part of returning to his Wolverine role amid his divorce.

The Aussie actor has donned the clawed gloves once again for the latest Deadpool movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, leaving fans in an absolute frenzy.

Jackman has previously appeared as Wolverine in nine of the eleven X-Men movies.

Making his debut in the first film in 2000, he has gone to be a regular fixture in the cast.

He has also appeared in his own solo Wolverine flicks, including X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), The Wolverine (2013) and Logan (2017).

The only X-Men films in which he doesn't appear are Dark Phoenix (2019) and Apocalypse (2016).

His role alongside Ryan Reynolds in the third Deadpool movie will bring an end to his temporary Wolverine hiatus - and the 55-year-old has admitted that getting back into shape for the role is tougher than before.

Talking to PEOPLE magazine, Jackman said: "The hardest bit … [was] the food. I have to eat a lot.

"For me, for my body type, I'm naturally skinny. To get the size on, that's the hardest bit. That's the bit that does my head in.

"My body was a little sore at the beginning, but I was thrilled that my body was still responding. And I realised how good it is for your brain."

Jackman's transformation process comes after his split from wife of almost 30 years Deborra-Lee, which was announced in September 2023.

The couple, who share two adopted children, parted ways with an announcement claiming they were looking to 'pursue our individual growth'.

In their initial statement to PEOPLE magazine, the couple said: "We have been blessed to share almost three decades together in a wonderful, loving marriage.

"Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth. Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.

"We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition."

An insider told Entertainment Tonight that there was no bad blood between the two.

They said: "Hugh and Deborra-Lee are both on different pages and in separate chapters of their lives. They felt like it was time to divorce, but they still maintain a happy and cordial friendship.

"At the end of the day, it was their collective agreement to go their separate ways and do the healthiest thing for everyone involved."

Deadpool & Wolverine will be hitting cinemas on July 26.
