This was in 1984, with Quan going on to star in The Goonies and other films.

After this, you’d think his career would be set moving forward, however, the actor has stated it was difficult for Asian actors to be movie stars in the industry at the time, so he went on to perform as a stunt choreographer and assistant director.
Twenty years on, after watching Crazy Rich Asians, he decided it was the time to get back into acting, culminating in an Oscar win in 2023 for his role in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Everything Everywhere All At Once, Quan's film directed by The Daniels, won Best Picture in addition to his win for Best Supporting Actor.

In an exclusive interview with LADbible, Quan revealed why he was shocked to reunite with Ford at the awards show, saying: “It was incredible, and it was it was a great night, but that night was made even better when Harrison Ford walked out holding the Best Picture envelope."
He went on to say: “I didn't know he was going to be presenting it that night, and I, you know, I didn't know whether we were going to win and we did.
“It was just, it was just so wonderful to have my first movie family there with me you know, with [director of Indiana Jones Steven] Spielberg and Harrison Ford there, John Williams was there, and then also with my current movie family, the family that brought me back, all of them together in one room.”

He said: “It feels incredible. It's something that I didn't think it would ever happen, especially, you know, when I was a kid, I studied martial arts for a long time, and I got my black belt, and I was so excited to show the world what I can do.
“But back then, you know, they didn't hire people like me to be the action star, and I was disappointed. And I thought that, you know, all those years of acquiring that skill would just go to waste.
“Little did I know that many years later, I can call upon those skills again, and not only that, but to be the leading man in a Universal Studios picture. Wow. It's truly, truly a dream coming true.”
Love Hurts is in cinemas now.
