Christmas films usually tend to be all cutesy and cosy, you know, fun comedies made for families and romantics.
But alongside the likes of Home Alone and Elf or Love Actually and The Holiday, are the darker festive movies for those of us after something a little different.

The synopsis for Silent Night reads: “Nell, Simon, and their boy Art are ready to welcome friends and family for what promises to be a perfect Christmas gathering.
"Perfect except for one thing: everyone is going to die.”
Yeah, like I said, it’s dark alright.
So basically, it becomes clear during their lovely little Christmassy night that it’s going to be their last.

Britain is set to be engulfed in a poisonous green mist after much of the world has already been wiped out.
And the government has came up with a way to help everyone out - by providing an exit pill. So, they all prepare to take it at midnight, after one last Christmas night.
X users quickly made the realisation it wasn’t a particularly light film as they wrote: “WHY AM I WATCHING THIS I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE A FUN MURDER MYSTERY OH GOD IT’S NOT.”

Another echoed: “Put Silent Night (2021) on thinking this will be a nice Christmas film for tonight. That’ll teach me to read the synopsis.”
Others left reviews calling it a ‘dark comedy’ on IMDb and said: “Never has a film been so heart-warming, heart-breaking and horrifying.
“SILENT NIGHT is humanity at its very best in the face of its worst fears with laughter, tears and a poignant reminder of why life is worth living at all before we meet our inevitable ends.”

Some also called it a ‘pleasant yet bleak surprise’ and wrote: “It’s not your typical Christmas flick but rather a very, very dark comedy with many truly dramatic aspects.”
One joked it’s ‘Love and Death Actually’.
But some warned: “Don’t watch on Christmas day as it may upset you,” while another who ‘hates’ Christmas films said ‘this one is a doozie’.
So, will it be How the Grinch Stole Christmas or this end of Christmas altogether for you?
