An actor has revealed an awkward issue they encountered while filming sex scenes with Melissa Barrera in a new horror movie.

The film marks one of Barrera’s first films since she was controversially fired from the upcoming Scream 7 for posting her support of Palestine and accusing Israel of genocide.

The upcoming film is a horror-rom-com, a genre-bending new take on the story of Beauty and the Beast.

Within this, Barrera and her co-star Tommy Dewey get, as he describes it, ‘frisky’ in one scene.

In the process, Dewey told LADbible in an exclusive interview that awkward issue he encountered while filming.

In the film, titled Your Monster, Dewey plays the titular Monster, and engages in a romance with Barrera’s character Laura Franco.

Dewey wore facial prosthetics for the role.

In an exclusive interview with Dewey and Barrera, we asked about the issues that came with wearing these for filming, and he said: “There were two times we were worried about the mask.

“There's that scene at night, which is the big emotional scene, where we're walking through a park, where The Monster had never been out in the rain, and it was raining that night, so we were afraid that monster's face would melt off.

He then went on to describe awkward issues he encountered when filming the Monster getting ‘frisky’, saying: “There's a scene where we get frisky with one another, and the monster's mouth sort of started to come apart.

“It required constant repair. But for the most part, that thing hung together pretty well.”

The film has been met with a positive response so far, with a 6.4 on IMdb and 75 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Barrera recently spoke out to The Independent in the run-up to the release of Your Monster, where she discussed her firing from Scream.

She called the period since that happened in November 2023 ‘the darkest and hardest year of my life.’

She went on to say: “I had to reevaluate everything. There were times where I felt like my life was over.

“It was quiet for, like, 10 months. I was still getting offers for small things here and there, I’m not going to lie and say there was nothing, but [the message] was, like, ‘Oh, she probably doesn’t have work, she’ll say yes to anything”.

Barrera was fired by Scream production company Spyglass after accusing Israel of ‘Genocide and ethnic cleansing’, and wrote in a subsequent post: “I have been actively looking for videos and information about the Palestinian side for the last 2 weeks or so, following accounts, etc.

“Why? Because Western media only shows the other side. Why they do that, I will let you deduce for yourself. Usually the algorithm on social media gets the gist.”

While Israel continues to reject accusations they are committing genocide, a report by the UN in March of this year said there were ‘reasonable grounds to believe that the threshold indicating the commission’ of genocide had been met.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 44,363 people have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7, including 17,492 children.

Spyglass released a statement following her firing, saying: “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
