Sandra Bullock admitted there was 'nothing sexy' about nude scene with Ryan Reynolds as she shared truth behind it

Although Ryan Reynolds is largely considered to be quite the heartthrob, Sandra Bullock said there was 'nothing sexy' about filming in the nude with him.

The pair were completely starkers in one hilarious scene in The Proposal, but Bullock reckons it was more awkward than arousing.

To be fair, smashing your naked body into your co-star who also doesn't have a stitch on doesn't sound that appealing in the cold light of day, does it?

In the 2009 romcom, Bullock starred as Margaret Tate, the tough-talking boss of a book publishing company who originally hails from Canada.

After being threatened with deportation, she orders her personal assistant Andrew Paxton (Reynolds) to marry her so that she can get her hands on a US green card.

He agrees to her plot on the condition that he gets a promotion, before the pair head off to his hometown in Alaska to get his parents' 'approval' for the fake marriage.

Sparks start to fly between the pair during the trip while they are pretending to be in love - but before anything happens between them, they had quite a few awkward moments.

The most prominent one being when Margaret steps out of the shower and struggles to find a towel...only to run into an equally naked Andrew, who has just stripped off after going for a run.

The duo comically tumble on top of one another in the scene, before bounding up and sheepishly finding something to cover their modesty.

When filming this humorous moment, Bullock's small modesty cover-ups became 'unstuck', while Reynolds ended up accidentally showing off his ballsack to everyone on set.

Those tidbits of behind-the-scenes knowledge at least make Bullock's comments about the scene being the complete opposite of sexy a bit more understandable.

The Speed star, 60, spoke about it during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show in 2013 alongside Samuel L Jackson and Nick Frost.

"Ah the naked scene," she said in response to host Graham Norton. "There's nothing funnier than two naked bodies slapping together.

"There's nothing sexy about it at all - it's funny. I don't do naked for sexy. Naked only works for me in the funny."

This comment seemed to confuse film legend Jackson, so Bullock went on to clarify that she meant in terms of movies, rather than real life.

She then added: "If you're having sex and you get recorded, and you don't know you're being recorded, my guess - not that I've ever done this - is that you don't look good doing it."

In another interview, Bullock pointed out that she felt comfortable getting her kit off with Reynolds as they had been friends for a long time, as she explained they have known each other 'since they were prepubescent'.

Speaking to the About Last Night podcast in 2021, The Blind Side actress reiterated her earlier comments while heaping praise on her co-star.

Bullock said: "You will not see me trying to attempt being sexy naked – in real life or on screen. There’s just no point in it.

"It was for that reason, with a friend that you trusted comedically, and safety-wise I knew I was in the presence of safety."

It seems that Bullock and Reynolds really are firm friends who both look back on The Proposal fondly, if his birthday message to her in 2023 is anything to go by.

The Deadpool and Wolverine actor, 48, shared a tongue-in-cheek post on Instagram to celebrate her 59th journey around the sun.

He shared a clip of their nude scene alongside the caption: "Happy Birthday to the inimitable and stunning Sandra Bullock!

"For your birthday this year, I got us both intimacy coordinators. And an HR department. And clothing?"
