Horror movies are a fun watch, as long as you're up for a little jump scare here and there.
But what is the scariest horror film ever made?
Well, that's an argument that has been going on for years, with fans having their own opinions based on them favouring other sub-genres, as several top 10 lists have been compiled in the past.

But what if there was a way to scientifically determine the scariest horror movie out there?
Well wonder no longer, as it has been proven and you'll no longer have to ponder about what the definitive horror movie is.
Released in 2012, the supernatural horror film follows a struggling true crime writer, who moves his family into a house that was once the site of a number of gruesome murders.

As he researches footage found in his house that was initially thought to be a number of snuff films about the murders, things quickly turn dark.
Soon, his research findings put the family in danger, and he must save himself and his loved ones before it's too late.
Starring Hollywood legend Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance, Fred Thompson and Clare Foley among others, the film grossed an impressive $87.7 million (£70.4 million) at the box office against a budget of just $3 million (£2.4 million).
One of the most recognised and famous horror films ever made, it is none other than Sinister, and you can view the trailer here:
Known for creating tension and unease among the audience rather than the traditional jump scare, it's no wonder that the film is rated so highly by fans.

But how is it the scariest film ever?
Well, according to a study by broadbandchoices, there are no scarier films than Sinister.
Daniel Clifford, the creator of the study, stated: “With more people than ever facing a Halloween at home, our Science of Scare study was designed to help people find the most scientifically scary films ever made, to save them the time of searching through thousands of titles across streaming services like Amazon, Netflix, and Shudder.”
The study looked at the resting heart rates of 50 participants over a range of ages as they watched over 100 hours of scary movies.

After this, it was discovered that as they watched a compiled list of the 35 scariest films, Sinister came out on top by causing the highest resting heart rates.
The average resting heart rate of the individuals was 65 beats per minute, but it was found that during Sinister, this figure jumped to 86 bpm.
Highlighting the continued tension that is sustained for all 110 minutes of the film, the good news for horror fans is that you can stream it in full on Netflix now.
