We've all sweated, struggled and swore when trying to open jars that just won't budge, but a simple hack could apparently save us from further torment.

You might be halfway through making your dinner, and realise that there’s absolutely nothing you can do about getting into a jar you really need.

Many of us will have tried the tea towel, brute strength, a knife, but nothing will budge these damn lids… it’s almost like they don’t want us to get in them?

That is until now.

A hack to open difficult jars has gone viral on Instagram after appearing on BBC Radio 2, and I think it’s safe to say from this day on, collectively, our lives have been made a whole lot easier.

Speaking on the radio station with Claudia Winkleman, Texas frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri said: “You take the jar, I really struggle getting jars open, take a wooden spoon, and smack the rim at the side once, and the jar goes ‘pop!’ and it just opens.

“It’s insane. Give it a good smack.

Who knew Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri was a jar opening guru.

“I FaceTimed my sister, I was opening every jar in my house that I could find just to show people.”

This has definitely saved us a lot of hand pain trying to twist these things open that’s for sure!

After claiming that the hack was initially 'impossible', Claudia was left baffled.

Social media users were gobsmacked too, with one writing: "Omg it works, my pickled onions are open!!"

Another said: "Couldn’t believe it but, her tip actually bloody works!!! What a revelation!!!!"

There are, in fact, several other different methods that could make the process a whole lot easier.

The second one? Using clingfilm.

You simply wrap the clingfilm around the jar lid, apply pressure with your hand by pushing down, and the lid should twist off pretty easily.

Third is the elastic band method.

Stretch an elastic band around the lid of the jar, friction should make it that the lid is a lot easier to open than before.

The fourth is to run the jar under really hot water and, using a tea towel to avoid burns, twist the lid.

And the fifth is to just totally lob it in the nearest bin, because if none of these four methods are working, you really were just doomed never to get into it.

There you have it, long gone are the days of battling jars in the kitchen, you’re totally welcome.
