It centres on a scientist, who heads deep into a quarantined zone in the southern United States as part of a top secret mission.
The official synopsis reads: "Lena (Natalie Portman), a biologist and former soldier, joins a mission to uncover what happened to her husband inside Area X – a sinister and mysterious phenomenon that is expanding across the American coastline.
"Once inside, the expedition discovers a world of mutated landscape and creatures, as dangerous as it is beautiful, that threatens both their lives and their sanity."
When it was released a few years ago, it was met with a mix of critical acclaim and down right confusion, with people not quite sure what the hell they had just watched.

But despite viewers being left scratching their heads, it scored 88 percent one Rotten Tomatoes, which isn't too shabby.
But now, some are only just experiencing it for the first time, and they are loving it.
Sharing their thoughts on a Reddit thread, one fan said it was simply incredible.

They wrote: "It could quite possibly be one of the best films I’ve ever seen, period.
"The cinematography is absolutely incredible. The soundtrack is a masterpiece. The performances are great (Natalie Portman and Oscar Isaac are both excellent). The atmosphere is dreamlike and unsettling. The Shimmer is both beautiful and terrifying.
"It has some of the most disturbing and intense scenes I’ve ever seen in a movie. Every second keeps you on the edge of your seat."
Adding: "I cannot recommend it enough."

And they weren't alone either.
Commenting on the post, another user was full of praise for the film.
They said: "The best thing about the film is the realistic depiction of what aliens could actually be. Beings from an alternate universe/dimension that do not have earthly carbon based features nor qualities."

"What this film did with visuals and audio was a unique and captivating approach to sci-fi. Never have I been as intrigued and mesmerised by an antagonist as this film," put a third.
Not everyone was into it, though, it has to be said. I mean, you can't please, everyone, can you?
Sharing their disappointment, one critic said: "Such a ridiculous movie with awful characters."
But if you fancy giving it a whirl, Annihilation is currently available to stream on Netflix.
