Hugh Jackman denies taking steroids to become Wolverine

Hugh Jackman is set to play Wolverine for a 10th time, and - as ever - he's getting into shape the natural way

Hugh Jackman has denied that he ever took steroids whilst he was getting ripped for his various roles as Wolverine in the X-Men and standalone films. Here's the trailer for just one of the times he has played the iconic role.

Hugh Jackman – more like Huge Jacked Man, am I right? – has played many roles over the years, but none so often as his turn as the surly mutant superhero Wolverine.

He’s donned the famous claws nine times already and is set to do it for a 10th time in the next Deadpool film.

That means that he’s had to keep himself in pretty incredible shape for decades, given that the first film in the franchise came out in 2000.

However, during that time he claims that he never bothered with some of the methods that others have used to gain massive amounts of muscle and definition, such as steroids.

Maybe a little drink now and again, but no steroids.

Take note, Liver King – Hugh Jackman is the real deal.

Giving an interview on HBO’s ‘Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace’ talking to – you’ve guessed it – Chris Wallace, Jackman was asked: “Over the years people have wondered; did he juice?

“Did he take steroids?”

Jackman was quick to respond: “No, I love my job. And I love Wolverine,

“I got to be careful what I say here, but I had been told anecdotally what the side effects are of that. And I was like, ‘I don’t love it that much.’

“So no, I just did it the old school way.

“And I tell you, I’ve eaten more chickens — I’m so sorry to all the vegans and vegetarians and to the chickens of the world.

“Literally the karma is not good for me.

“If the deity has anything related to chickens, I’m in trouble.”

There you have it – everything you see on screen is totally natural and all the actor himself.

Well, apart from the adamantium claws and skeleton, that was the result of a cruel experiment on his body as part of the Weapon X project.

That’s a story for another day, though.

As for Jackman, he says that it’s going to take him a while to get into the shape he needs to be in if he’s going to play the role again.

During the same interview, he said: "I've learned you can't rush it. I've learned that it takes time,

"So, we have six months from when I finish [Broadway play The Music Man] to when I started filming.

“And I'm not doing any other work. I'm going to be with my family and train.

“That's going to be my job for six months.”

He added: “I'm really fit right now.

“There's one thing that about eight shows a week being on Broadway singing and dancing, is I'm fit.

“So, I'm healthy. I have a good place to start.

Jackman concluded: “Apologies, chickens. Run a mile. Start running now because I'm coming for you.”

If the Wolverine tells you to start running, you’d better do it.
