Movie buffs are hailing 2023 as a 'good year for horror' after tuning into the terrifying trailer for upcoming flick It Lives Inside.
There's somewhat of a sick enjoyment behind getting jump-scared into next week while watching a horror movie, which more often than not leaves us sleeping with the lights on and having major regrets.
And there's definitely going to be some lights left on if the reception to the latest horror offering from indie studio NEON is anything to go by.

From the producers behind creepy favourite Get Out, It Lives Inside follows Indian-American teen Sam, who must reconnect with her heritage after an ancient demonic force attaches itself to her best friend.
The official synopsis reads: "Sam is desperate to fit in at school, rejecting her Indian culture and family to be like everyone else.
"When a mythological demonic spirit latches onto her former best friend, she must come to terms with her heritage in order to defeat it."

Starring Megan Suri as Sam, the chilling movie made its debut at the 2023 SXSW conference and is already being hailed as a fresh take on the demonic horror trope, as well as playing on the consequences of running from your identity.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the inspiration behind the movie comes from filmmaker Bishal Dutta's own experience of moving from India to the States as a child.
Fans of all things jump-scares and the paranormal are loving the nail-biting trailer, taking to TikTok in their troves to express their excitement for the upcoming release.

Others, however, were tapping out after watching the creepy trailer. Fair enough, to be honest - anything that includes the line 'It doesn’t kill you right away…it eats you slowly' is going to be a no from me.
"Hell nahh bro," said one user.
"Why did I watch this at 11.58 at night bro imma cry," commented another, while a third added: "That's okay, I didn't want to sleep tonight anyway."

There's also been a lot of praise for the cast, with many appreciating the fact there's a POC main character and that the film is delving 'more into lore from other cultures'.
You can watch It Lives Inside when it hits cinemas in Autumn 2023, if you think you're brave enough.
