Channel 4 stumped up £18,000 for a contestant after a cock-up on Jimmy Carr’s new quiz show I Literally Just Told You.
Eddy, from Glasgow, appeared on a recent episode of the show, but was unable to answer a question about Ariana Grande’s age.
For those of you unfamiliar with the series, contestants are given the answers to questions throughout the show - so, provided they are paying attention and have a half decent memory, they should be able to come up with the correct answer when the time is right.
However, when Eddy was asked for the popstar’s age, he drew a blank and lost out on the £18,000 jackpot.
But it turned out that while Jimmy had spoken about Ariana’s age, he hadn’t actually given a specific number, meaning that Eddy hadn’t literally just been told.
You can watch the moment below:
After spotting the blunder, Channel 4 decided to put it right and they enlisted host Jimmy to deliver the good news - and a hefty cheque.
Eddy was invited down to one of Jimmy’s gigs where the comedian owned up to the mistake and handed over the prize.
Jimmy invited Eddy on stage and said: "Now I've got something to tell you, I've got something to confess.
"You lost the money on a question - it was Ariana Grande's age.
"We talked about her age but we never gave you the specific age so we messed up.
"And when you mess up in life, you've got to own your mistakes. Here's a cheque for £18,000."
Understandably, Eddy looked absolutely delighted after being given the cash prize. And for anyone wondering, Ariana is 28 - I’m sure Eddy won’t forget that in a hurry.
The quiz kicked off last month and is already a hit with viewers.
Speaking ahead of its first show, Jimmy said: "I sort of like to think of TV being like a trainset: you’ve got this incredible trainset and these brilliant producers that all help you play, and you’ve got to come up with the most fun game to play with.
"It’s such an unusual, weird and wonderful show. I think it’s the best thing I’ve ever done."
He added: "All you have to know for this show is what’s just happened, you just have to pay attention, and you can get the whole thing.
"We had real fun with the fact that anything could happen – 15-second celebrity cameos, false ad breaks, you can really mess with people’s minds. It felt really exciting as a premise for a show.”
The next episode of I Literally Just Told You airs at 10pm on Wednesday 12 January on Channel 4. You can catch up on previous episodes on All4.
