John Cena fans obsessed with ‘raucous’ adult version of Superbad on Netflix as new series releases

Cena has a new series of Peacemaker coming out and one of his cult classic films is available on Netflix

John Cena fans are obsessed with one of his most underrated films, which many viewers have compared to Superbad and is available to watch on Netflix.

This comes amid Cena’s newest show, Peacemaker, debuting its second season tomorrow, August 21.

Continuing from the show’s glowing reviews for season one, season two has been similarly well-received with a 93 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

The TV series, a spin-off of Cena’s character in The Suicide Squad, sees him as a villain turned anti-hero.

In season two, Cena has been unafraid to get involved in some raunchy scenes, with his character taking part in a bisexual orgy.

For fans of the actor’s work, however, this should come as no surprise, particularly those who’ve seen his racy comedy film Blockers.

The film has a premise that makes the ‘adult Superbador ‘female Superbad’ comparisons obvious.

Blockers focuses on a trio of parents who become friends due to the friendship of their daughters.

On prom night, however, they decide to work together to try and stop their children from losing their virginity, acting as c**k blockers.

The film follows both the three daughters and their antics, as well as the three parents who themselves get involved in crazy scenarios in the process of c**k-blocking.

Cena stars alongside Leslie Mann, Kathryn Newton, Geraldine Viswanathan, Ike Barinholtz, Gideon Adlon, and Ramona Young.

The film was both called a ‘female Superbad’ in honour of the three daughters’ quest to have sex and at times an ‘adult Superbad’ for the hijinks the parents get up to in their quest to stop them, which includes Cena’s character doing a ‘butt chug’.

Kay Cannon, the film’s director, directly acknowledged those comparisons to Superbad, saying: “This story was so under-served for women. So now that we have one, it’s being compared to ‘Superbad’ and ‘American Pie,’ which are comedy classics, so I love being compared to them.

“I love being in that neighbourhood.”

The film also popped up in a Reddit thread discussing how American Pie is the teen film of the 90s, with Superbad taking that place for the 00s, and wondering what the corresponding movie is for the 2010s.

One comment said: “Blockers will get big over time. It's really funny and it's got a lot of heart. I missed it in theatres but watched it on HBO and loved it.”

Many fans, however, have suggested the film is far more than just another Superbad, with Vulture slamming the comparison in their glowing review of Blockers.

They said: “Superbad is a boys’ dark odyssey, a teen sex comedy in which fear and confusion are built in.

Blockers, for all its high-velocity raunch and drug abuse, is fundamentally positive.

“The movie has the quality of an ancient, bacchanalian comedy in which humans are reckless fools but the forgiving spirit of comedy itself leaves everyone safe and in one piece — albeit, in one case, with an exploding butt.”

Blockers is available to watch on Netflix now.
