Lewis Capaldi can't find builders to renovate ‘hell hole’ £1.6 million farmhouse Ed Sheeran told him to buy

Lewis Capaldi says he can't get anyone in to fix up his 'squalor' of a house.

The popstar recently opened up about the difficulties he's been having with his newish £1.6 million farmhouse.

After having moved back in with his parents during the lockdown a few years ago, the 26-year-old decided that he needed his own place and plumped for a huge pad just outside Glasgow.

Before putting pen to paper, Lewis says that he sought the advice of fellow singer and property mogul, Ed Sheeran, who he says urged him to buy it.

However, it's not quite panned out as the 'Someone You Loved' singer had hoped.

Rather than being his dream home, Lewis says it's become an absolute 'hell hole', and he's struggled to get rid of the smell of dog and smoke, despite gutting the place.

Speaking last year, he said: "Ed Sheeran told me to buy this house and it's an absolute hell hole.

"We were talking during lockdown about how I wanted to move out of my parents' house and he went online and looked at this place and it looked great.

"From the outside it is beautiful, there's sprawling hills, there's a lake.

"He didn't realise that it would smell of cigarette smoke and dog. I moved in and I hated the decor, I hated everything about it.

"I did go and see it but I was too eager. I was like, 'that smell of dog and smoke will go away after a while,' but it didn't. We have ripped that place out and it still reeks of dog and smoke."

Lewis went on to joke that he thought Ed should probably stump up some cash for the renovation work.

"I have made some bad decisions over the last two years and that was one of them,” he said.

"I am redoing the house. Ed Sheeran should technically reimburse me for the money I'm having to pay on this. Ed is a property tycoon but he's never bought a place in Scotland obviously because mine is awful."

But a few months on, it doesn't look like things have improved much.

During an interview on US radio, he said that he really needs his new album to do well so that he can pay for all the work needed on the property.

And he's struggling to find anyone who will sort it out for him.

"Let's put it this way, if this album doesn't go well I have a real issue on my hands," he joked.

"That house is now a shell. I have ripped it all out and right now it's squalor.

"We keep on finding builders and they keep on being like 'Nah, not for us'. People are turning me down. I'm offering to pay the money and they're like 'No, not for us, that's not the one'.

"So Ed has still burdened my life to an incredible degree."

For his part, Sheeran told US radio show Elvis Duran and the Morning Show: "I just want to say that I didn’t just send him one house, I sent him a bunch and he went to view them.

"He didn't just ring them up and say 'I'll take it'.

"Honestly, if it does make him feel better then I will buy the house off him."
