Lord of the Rings prequel official trailer shows incredible look at most expensive TV series ever made

It's the most expensive TV show ever made and each new trailer looks ever more gorgeous

The new trailer for Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a stunning demonstration of just why it's the most expensive TV series of all time. Watch the stunning new trailer here:

Telling the story of the world of Middle Earth before the Lord of the Rings movies audiences know and love, the Amazon Prime show will delve deep into the backstory behind JRR Tolkien's fantasy world.

We'll get to see a younger Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and Isildur (Maxim Baldry) long before the events of the Lord of the Rings films.

The series will also track the rise of power of the dark lord Sauron, with eager fans wondering whether they're the Eminem-looking character spotted in earlier materials for the show.

Set in the Second Age of Tolkien's world, The Rings of Power will show audiences a peaceful setting before the encroaching evil of Morgoth's minions threatens to upset everything.

Of course, audiences familiar with events of Lord of the Rings will already know that a bunch of rings of power are going to be forged, and that Sauron will make one ring to rule them all.

You can tell Amazon haven't cut costs on their upcoming Lord of the Rings show.

We've known for a while that Prime's Lord of the Rings TV series was going to be the most expensive one ever made (so far), with Amazon having sunk $1 billion into making the show.

That staggering amount of money hasn't all gone into producing the first season, though that reportedly cost $465 million to make, as there are plans to eventually make five seasons of epic Lord of the Rings content.

Judging by what we've seen in the trailer that massive budget has been spent on making the world of Lord of the Rings look absolutely beautiful, with stunning settings and costumes taking the viewer into that wonderful fantasy land.

With such a huge budget spent on the show and plans for several seasons, expectations for the success of The Rings of Power are high.

Phwoar, just look at the detailing on that Dwarf hold.

Some fans are really excited to see The Rings of Power finally arrive after much hype, while others are worried that the show will be incredibly expensive but ultimately fail to hold a candle to the trilogy of Lord of the Rings movies directed by Peter Jackson.

Those hoping to finally see for themselves what all the hype is about won't have much longer to wait, as it's only going to be a matter of days until the first series arrives on Amazon Prime.

For those who want to see it first, the opening two episodes of The Rings of Power will be screening at certain cinemas on 31 August.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will release on Prime Video on 2 September.
