Margot Robbie has revealed a time a fan mistook her for another actress.

The star of the highly-anticipated Barbie movie must have fans flocking to her in the streets fairly often.

However, one fan got in a bit of a pickle and mistook Robbie for being in Sex Education.

The actress has since opened up about the awkward conversation.

When asked by BBC Radio 1's Ali Plumb when the last time was that someone asked her if they knew her or got her 'confused with another famous person', Robbie admitted it happened just a few weeks ago.

She said: "I was eating a burger at Apple Pen and they were like: 'I loved you in Sex Education. That show was so cool. We just started watching it'.

"And I was like, 'Oh, I'm so sorry it's not me'."

Reacting to Robbie's telling of the tale and the actress being mistaken for her, Emma Mackey – who played Maeve in Sex Education – said: "I love it. I love it.

"I love the, 'Oh, sorry that's not me'.

"And the fact that Brad and Leo are just chuckling at that. It makes me laugh," she said.

Fans of the two actresses were also left in stitches over the awkward encounter, weighing in on just how alike the pair look.

"The resemblance is uncanny!" one said.

A YouTube user wrote: "Omg they are like clones. Except for the slight difference in the jaw line and the age difference."

Another suggested the pair should do a movie together as they could play members of the same family.

"Wow, they look so similar, she could literally be her relative in the show or maybe like they can play younger and older version in some movie," they said.

In fact, one mock-up poster even tricked the internet into believing Robbie was to appear in the third season of the Netflix series.

However some admitted to getting Robbie and Mackey switched up themselves.

"Wait ur telling me it ain’t margot who plays her LMAOAOAO I-," one Instagram user commented.

Another said: "When I saw the trailer I did think it was margot lol."

A final confused user stated: "ok but i thought she was actually emma-"

Mackey has just been confirmed as joining Robbie in the cast of live action film Barbie.

Her role is yet to be confirmed, however, due to the actress's uncanny resemblance, fans think Mackey could possibly take on a character who is related to Barbie.

Barbie is expected to shoot this year, and is set for release in 2023.
