Michael C. Hall has shared his thoughts on the Dexter: New Blood finale.
His words come in light of news that fans were left thoroughly disappointed (again) after watching the final episode.
Beginning in October 2021, the new miniseries served as a chance to rectify the original Dexter finale which went down in history as one of the most hated finales of all time.
However, fans were able to experience the confusion and dejection all over again as they branded the new final episode an ‘anti-climactic’ second screw up.
*Major spoilers ahead*
The season finale seemed to be heading for an almighty show down when it was revealed Sherriff Angela Bishop, Dexter’s girlfriend, had figured out his murdering past.
All signs were pointing towards Dexter finally meeting his fate in the eyes of the law, as the serial killer faced the death penalty for his crimes.
However, things took a very different turn, as the episode finished with Dexter’s son shooting him dead before driving away to start a new life.
Michael C Hall, who plays Dexter, gave his thoughts on the final episode.
He told the Los Angeles Times: “Some people will have predicted it, and some will be shocked by it.
“Some people will accept it, some people will reject it.
“I think it will be difficult for people to grapple with his fate given that he is someone they have spent a lot of time with and have a lot of affection for—at least in some cases.”
“The way the seasons concludes is one that resonates with me,” Hall continued.
“It feels justifiable. As upsetting as it may be, I hope audiences will appreciate the resonance of Dexter dying this way at the hands of his son.”
Twitter users appeared to take on a different view of the finale.
One fan wrote: “They really went and screwed up two Dexter finales. Can’t believe this is what we get after 8 years.”
Another added: “I’m convinced they only brought #DexterNewBlood back to hurt us all over again.”
A third said: “After the beyond awful #DexterNewBlood finale, I’ve come to conclusion that the S8 finale is OG! New Blood never happened.”
Despite the controversy, there are talks of the beloved series being resurrected for a third time through the eyes of Dexter’s son, Harrison.
Showrunner Clyde Phillips spoke of being open to the idea, as he told Collider: “If they were to call me and say, 'We want to do Harrison. Are you interested?' Much like when they called me to say, 'We want to reboot Dexter, and you're the guy' I would drop everything to do it.”
At this point fans might think it's best to let sleeping dogs lie.
