After years spent trying to beat him to the top spot on YouTube, MrBeast finally met his fellow content creator-slash-competitor PewDiePie in real life.

PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, was dubbed the 'king' of YouTube as he held the most-subscribed channel on the platform in 2013, but it wasn't long before a new content creator entered the chat.

He was just 13 years old, and went by the handle MrBeast6000.

Jimmy Donaldson has obviously since dropped the '6000', but after years spent hot on the heels of PewDiePie last year, he took the crown, surpassing 111 million subscribers - a figure that's only continued to grow since.

PewDiePie congratulated MrBeast for his achievement at the time, though the comments were threaded with calls for his competitor to follow through on an earlier challenge - that whoever was last to hit 100 million subscribers had to delete their channel. Although PewDiePie hit the milestone first, MrBeast decided not to follow through with that suggestion.

Throughout the decade they've been in competition with one another, the two creators have acknowledged each another a number of times via the internet. But being based in different countries, they've never met in person until now.

MrBeast shared a post on Instagram this week with the location tagged in Tokyo, Japan - the same country PewDiePie moved to after leaving the UK last year.

He shared three snaps of himself and PewDiePie back to back, grinning together in what looked to be an empty fairground, with a ferris wheel lit up behind them.

Alongside the pictures, MrBeast simply wrote: "I finally met Pewdiepie."

PewDiePie shared the post on his own account but didn't add anything new to the caption, so details about exactly what went on during their meeting - other than a trip to the fair - remain a mystery.

But let's be honest - two of the world's biggest content creators, together in a huge fairground? If that's not a recipe for a new video, I don't know what is.

I'm not the only one who thinks so, either.

Fans are desperate for a MrBeast and PewDiePie collab.

After MrBeast shared the photos online, fans flooded the comments with questions about whether their meeting would lead to a collaboration.

"Video posting soon on both platforms respectively," one person guessed, as another wrote: "Finally! Was wondering when that was going to happen! Now the next question is, HOW and WHY? A secret project..?"

A third added: "This is so iconic. I really hope there was a collab, or several."

I guess we'll just have to keep our eyes peeled for news of a new video!
