As much as we might love music there's a case to be made for us being shockingly bad at actually hearing what the song is saying.
Time and time again people have discovered that the lyrics to their favourite tunes aren't what they assumed, and sometimes lyrics have been changed over the years and we've barely noticed.
Everybody's been singing 'Merry Xmas Everybody' by Slade incorrectly basically ever since it was released, and Noddy Holder's wife Suzan recently told people they'd had it wrong from the very beginning.

People reckon that Eminem changed the lyrics to some of his songs and are sure old versions sounded different.
Even the tunes to people's favourite childhood TV shows aren't quite what you remember them to be.
Another one to add to that list is one of Blink-182's most popular songs, as there's a lyric in it lots of fans have admitted to getting wrong.

If you're a Blink-182 fan (and why wouldn't you be?) you probably know their song 'What's My Age Again', but some of the band's fans who like to sing along have messed up right from the very start.
"I took her out, it was a Friday night, I wore cologne to get the feeling right,"
so the song opens, only there are lots of people posting about how they could have sworn that line went differently.
Instead of 'I wore cologne' lots of Blink-182 fans thought the band were singing 'I walk alone'.

For those fans learning the actual lyrics has been a surprising experience, though others have pointed out that if you bought the CD it came with a little booklet with all the lyrics that 'any honest music nerd' definitely read, so making it this far while still getting it wrong is pretty silly.
Some fans have said they're 'questioning everything I've ever known now' while others have decided to ignore what the words actually are as they'll be 'sticking with I walk alone'.
One fan who got it wrong was astonished to discover his mistake, especially as he realised that the incorrect lyrics don't actually make any sense.

More fans of Blink-182 have explained that 'saying walk alone feels weird but I never once questioned it', because songs really don't have to make all that much sense as long as they sound good.
"Because walk alone sounds more profound than cologne," was someone else's explanation for the whole lyrical kerfuffle, and they're right.
